Tinting the front Window

This came up in an earlier thread and I ignorantly laughed at the guy who suggested it, but now that I've picked up my 6er I see why he suggested it. The front window has almost no sunglare protection on it at all. Doesn't even have the top 4-5 inches to protect from the most irritating sun angle, right at the top.

Why is there no "sunshade" tint at the top? Im considering tinting the front, purely to save my eyesight when I don't have my sunglasses on...

With HUD - no green sunshield strip
W/o HUD - should have it.

U might consider putting your specs in sig so we know what u have. I have not commited your car to memory

If you do decide to tint your windshield, I recommend that you tint it no darker than 50% so that you driving vision isn't impaired while driving at night, and your problem with glare is rectified.

Ive taken my car in to be tinted, and for now opted not to tint the front. I saw the owners tint job on his front and it looked like ass. From the outside it was mega dark, and he said it had "no tint" to it at all ... it also had a "rainbow" effect on the outside. Not what I want. From the inside, you could see the texture of the film a little.

Going to think this one over a bit more before I do it, if at all.

Neverana, who are you using for the tint work?

Are you doing the film bra too?

I think that the look is gonna be determined by a couple of things, one of which being the quality of the film, and the other being the type of film that is used....be it metallic...or not.

Chuck - I took it to Tint Devil on Miramar road. Im the one who suggested them earlier on here. They did a great job on my Audi, and 3 years later it looks like a brand new tint job.

Since this car is black, Im not going to tint it too much. I hate seeing windows that are the same shade of black as the paint, when there is no "trim" to offset things. There are no alternating colors, or silver trim or anything on the side of the 650, so the windows and the rims have to balance things out. Its all about balance. Too much black on black on this car does not look good.

There were 5 levels of tint (5 being darkest). I am doing a "3" on the back window and "2" on the side windows.

Surprisingly, it was cheaper to do the 650 than to do my Audi A4. He said its because its easier for him to do a 650. That was a nice surprise.

One thing I am concerned about - he saw my interior which is the cream beige, and told me I needed the "brownish" colored tint. That alarmed me and I questioned him about it, and even asked for samples. I could see no difference. He said "Trust me ive been doing this 18 years, it will look best with your car. Its just an underlying tan tone to it, which will complement your interior". So im a little concerned about that. Never heard of a tan toned tint before, and this is a black car - so i dont think i want to accentuate the brown too much.

Aesthetics is a *big* deal for me, with cars...

He's probably referring to tint with Bronze in it.

Yeah im kind of afraid. I dont want the windows to look brownish. That will not work with a black car. Will it? I can't picture it.

I don't think you will notice the brown tint unless your car is next to another car with gray tint.

Alone by itself, it will not be noticable. At least mine wasn't.

I want to to gray tint (silver gray exterior/black interior) but have the tint the same percentage on all windows. I don't care for the variance between the driver's door window and the rear seat window. I think that means 25% all the way around.

Only variance on mine will be back window versus all 4 side windows. No variance between drivers door and rear seat. He advised me to avoid doing that.

Were you on Miramar rd today?

The Audi took about 4 hours. I made the mistake of waiting in their waiting room. Living hell. So I opted to drop it off this time. Plus I didn't get there until 5pm. The thought of possible joyriding and all out theft crossed my mind, but paranoia isn't healthy
