Sounds like a deal to me. Some research on autotrader.com would be good, that way you'll know for sure.

make sure it isnt a bmw buyback. Also, what is the color combo? if its one of the unpopular combos then haggle the price some. Run a carfax.

I have a 02. My Nav froze a little so I took it in and they replaced it with the 2006 DVD Nav and all new 06 Nav Software, and CPU. DSC had a prob and the replaced 2 valve things and it was all set. As long as you have a warranty don't worry....

..... long as u have a warranty and are near a NICE dealership.

Chowan24 got lucky. Majority of dealerships upgrade the faulty CD Navi to the MKIV DVD navi, but they dotn give you the latest 2005 Navteq DVD disc. the MKIV supports the CD disc so they just give u a new unit and stick your old disc in.

For instance I went to SEattle BMW and complained that my sidemarker was leaking water....they said it is not covered in warranty it is abnormal wear and tear or some bull****. So I take it to Bellevue BMW, tell them the same story, and they replace it for free.

Also some people have been able to get free replacements of interior panels and buttons that show signs of premature wear (peeling of the rubbery coating). Others (like myself) are told that is is not covered under warranty and is due to excessive use. I would be willing to drive my car out of state to a GOOD dealership that I know would replace all my problem parts. Shelly BMW in so. cal. is known to be excessively dick from what I have read on various boards.

FWIW, I got a 745Li slate green with 50K miles and warranty till 05/2008 for less than $35K from a private party. The wholesale price on these cars is in the mid 30s to early 40s; the typical trade in $2K less than the wholesale value.

Also decide how long you want to keep the car. If you plan to keep it out of warranty, it might make sense for going for a low milage car. However if you are planning to keep it only in the warranty period, go get a higher milage one (50-70K). That way you will have 30-40K miles to drive in the remaining 2-3 years. However you will be paying significantly less (10-15%) on a car with 60K miles than a car with 30K miles. Check out Ebay auctions and dealer auctions. There are a bunch of cars in the late 30Ks. (e.g. Auction # 4605536020, 63K miles for < $36K).

I suggest leasing the car through leasecompare.com if you plan to keep it during the warranty period only. They have some amazing deals.
