help with 323

Hi all,

I am from Sydney Australia. Right now I am deciding between the 323 and 325 and would like some help. Where can i find the technical spec for the new 323? It is yet to arrive downunder and I dont have the opportunity to test drive it yet.

In terms of relative price, due to heavy import duties, the price of the 325 is about 22% higher than the 323. Is the 325 worth the extra $?

Many thanks

Thanks for the info. i checked the bmw.ca site. No sure whether all the info listed are correct.

1) it says the 325 has a 3.0L engine
2) it says the 323 is using Valvetronic engine, is this correct? I thought it is used on 325and 330 only

one thing i do notice is that the torque coming in at much higher rev for the 323

You should check http://www.bmw.com.au rather than bmw.ca.

Be careful with the info on the BMW Canada site, the engines and model designations are different than for Europe and most of the rest of the world. In the past Australia has typically had models similar to the UK (www.bmw.co.uk).

In Canada and the US, the 325i has a 3.0L engine, basically a de-tuned version of the 3.0L used worldwide, but with a similar power output to the 2.5L used in the 325i everywhere but North America.

In Canada the 323i is a de-tuned version of the 2.5L engine found in the rest of the world, and is unique to Canada as far as I know - this may or may not be the engine destined for Australia, but if I had to guess, I'd say that Australia will get the same engine in the 323i as the UK gets, not the same one as Canada.

They are, for Canada. Australia has RHD cars, and shares its main specifications with cars also destined for the UK. So, you get a 325i with a 2.5 litre engine (although technically there's no reason BMW couldn't fit a detuned 3.0 litre to a RHD car though it probably isn't catered for in its product planning).

The 325i and 330i are only the latest cars to feature Valvetronic. The fours and V8s have had it for years .

There is no word yet on a 323i for the UK or even other European markets, although there is already a 523i. It looks like Canada is the only market so far to get it. Probably because the 325i is just too pricey as an entry level BMW, and BMWNA would rather do anything else than try to sell another four-cylinder BMW.
