Is This Dealer Crazy? Used 2005 330Ci ZHP...
A BMW dealer in my area is selling a 2005 330Ci ZHP 6-speed with 6,800 miles, Premium Package, Xenons, Heated Seats, and Navigation. Extremely nice car, but they want $43,688 for it. Is this reasonable? Used ZHP sedans seem to be going for the low $30's, so I'm wondering what I should expect to pay for a low-mileage 2005 ZHP coupe?
Thanks. Last edited by mandms7; 02-11-2006 at 11:56 AM. |

ZHPs have been in very high demand lately. Especially with 3 pedals, and especially when under 25k miles.

He is totally insane. Run, don't walk, away. Further, when E90 coupes are ready to release BMW will likely pull the same promotion stunt they did on E46 330i's and put a ~$5,000 incentive on them to get them out. |

It all depends on what you`re willing to pay....let`s just pick a number, let`s say $39,500....I would go back to the dealer and tell the sales manager "I`m willing to pay $39.5K, my offer stands for 15 days". Depending on how much pressure he`s under to move units, you might have a shot....if not, keep looking.

Maybe I'm just being totally unrealistic, but I'm hoping not to pay more than $35K for a used low-mileagle ZHP coupe. Ideally it would only have Alcantara upholstery, 6-speed, xenons, and hopefully NAV (but could live without it). Do you think I have a chance of finding one for that price?

Very unlikely from a dealer, especially if you what nav your going to have to pay something in the high $30ks. Like someone said earlier ZHP models with 3 pedals are in demand. Also remember that coupes cost more than sedans(about $2k more) off the bat so keep that in mind. Good luck and happy hunting.

KBB is calling it 44,500 for suggested retail, Edmunds is about $39k for dealer price. They are rare and this one is well equipped and practially brand new.
What color combo is it?

When I was looking for my car back in June of 2005, I could not find a 6-speed ZHP coupe. A local dealer did a search and the closest 6 speed was in the state of Oregon. I had to order mine and when I went to go pick up my car at the dealer there were two people inquiring if my vehicle was for sale. Every time I see a new ZHP at the dealership it is always an automatic. My wife wants to trade in her 2002 525i for a X5. So I have been going to various BMW dealerships looking at X5's and at the same time looking at the ZHP's. Talking with most dealers here in San Diego County there is not a high demand for manual transmission vehicles. Even though it appears most members of this forum like myself prefer a manual transmission car. I can tell you there is a big difference in performance between an automatic ZHP and a manual transmission ZHP. When I was looking to order my car most dealers were only willing to discount from MSRP only $1,000. The dealership I bought mine from took $2,000 off from the MSRP. Then when the vehicle came in Sept. 2005 BMW had $3,800 in incentive money on the 325 and 330 coupes. There was a mix up in paperwork and the dealership sold the car to me at $6,000 off of MSRP. I was supposed to lease the vehicle through BMW and the paperwork never was submitted by the dealership and the lease rate expired.
Is the vehicle you are looking at a CPO (certified pre-owned) vehicle? I have looked at some 2005 X5's with 5,000 miles on them and they were not CPO vehicles. The dealer told me that the mileage was not high enough. I personally would not pay the asking price for the vehicle. Try contacting the Internet sales department; they should be able to tell you what the bottom price that the dealership is willing to accept for the vehicle. I purchased my vehicle via the Internet sales department. There was a ZHP that sold on Ebay for $29,500 (2004 ZHP coupe, 12,245 miles, leather and Xenons) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT. I have not seen to many manual transmission ZHP's . You can always wait to see how potential new owners will perceive the new body style. You can roll the dice and see if BMW will offer incentive money to liquidate remaining E46 coupes. I would be very surprised if you would be able to locate a manual transmission. I wish you the best of luck. Last edited by Grunt66; 02-11-2006 at 04:06 PM. |

I also wanted a 6sp 330ci ZHP and was lucky enough to see one on my local dealers lot. I ended up paying just over 40k for mine. It had only 1,400 miles on it. I probably paid too much, but I wanted the car and didn't want to wait or search around. To me it was just a matter of convince. It was there so I bought it

I found a car that I wanted at a dealer so I asked them what my 2005 330ci zhp with 7k miles was worth, no xenons, no nav, no other pkg but leather seats and 6 speed. It was leased and the payoff was 36779. They said they would give me the payoff. We couldn't come to terms on the other car so I didn't buy it but did sell them my car. That was two weeks ago and I believe it has sold. They were asking 44599. All I'm getting at is yes they must be very popular.

This thread makes me feel good about paying $40,500 for my 05 6 speed zhp coupe with xenons back in Dec 04. At that time I felt that I may have paid too much with all the deals that were being made on the 4-doors at the time. I have not regrets, the zhp is a ball to drive, almost makes driving to work something to look forward to.

Here's the car for those that want to take a look. Awesome car, but just way too expensive. And its not CPO due to the low mileage.

Unfortunately, even if they were to take $5K off the price, which I know they wouldn't, it would still be too much for me. The whole reason I'm looking at used ZHP's is to get one for a reasonable price (and something I can afford), which is no higher than $35K. Thanks again though! |

Thanks. For my price I agree I would have to go for a 2004 w/ more miles or wait. I can do either. But going back to my original post, I still think this dealer is out of their mind. As a couple people noted, they are known for their ridiculous prices.
Anyone have any ideas what changes they made on 2005 model 330Ci ZHPs as compared to 2004? |

I remember back in Aug. 2005, Bob Smith BMW had a 2005 ZHP coupe with a manual transmission with 3k miles. They where asking 43K for the vehicle. I believe the vehicle was equipped just like the one you where looking at. I was waiting for my vehicle to be delivered. I called about the vehicle and it was already sold. The vehicle was white with black leather. I do not know what the vehicle sold for.

That car is beautiful and has great options, the only thing I would prefer the silver trim to break up all that black in the interior, but there's no way I would pay that much for a used E46 ZHP coupe with the new E92 coupes right around the corner. If money's not an issue then buy it, but if you value a dollar then wait because in another year or two (at the most) you will have your pick of very nice & well priced 04 - 05 E46 coupes. Of course this is just a prediciton, but when the E92 coupe is faster, bigger & has more torque then even the E46 ZHP, you will start to see more of them (ZHP's) showing up for sale. But, yeah for right now, at this momement the ZHP coupe is probably my favorite E46 for the money.
