E30 1987 325e - Driver Seat Mechanism

Hi there,

In my '87 325e I have a problem with the driver seat mechanism. The lower
lever that controls the reclining works fine. The upper lever (near the head
rest) which controls the seat to move it forward (towards the dash) does not. I opened up the back of the seat and noticed that a wire cable is broken. I compared the
mechanism to the passenger seat but the two are different. I would like to repair it myself but have no clue. Is there some site that would have the diagram for me to see or does anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Fred

Slide the seat all the way forward and up take the back bolts out, push the seat all the way back and take the two front bolts out. It takes abuot 5mins to do

what kind of wrench are you using. There should be enough clearance to get the wrench in there and start to loosen it up. even with the seat all the way down you still can get a wrench in there and get the bolt out.

scratch that...i finally got it to come up...i stuck a screwdriver down in the slot where the mechanism is and somehow managed to get it to operate...well i took the seat out...removed the back and discovered the problem...the wire that runs from the lever on the side to the mechanism is not connected anymore and is too short and frayed to be put back in and fixed by my own work...so i'm gonna have to find a place that will fit a new piece of wire and reattatch it for me...o well...money well spent? lol

Push down while pulling up

I just bought a 1987 325e and am plodding through everything. To get the bolts out in back, you have too pull up on the back of the seat itself while pushing down on the lever you pull up on to recline the seat. My mechanisms all need some work, including the one that raises the seat.
