the major things would be more hp in the 530 and different options/equipment since they are a couple of years apart from each other.

i was trying to be nice.....

35 horsepower primarily. Steptronic transmissions (although some of the later 528s may have it). The 528 was pre-facelift, while the 530 was post...angel eyes, different wheels.

An item many people forget is the brakes. The 530 has the same brakes as the 540, the 528 and 525 are (like with the engines) smaller. This has a direct bearing on which wheels fit, where 15" do NOT fit on either the 530 or 540.

Exterior wise the 530i has body color matched body trim instead of the black plastic trim......clear/euro sidemarkers.........euro/led taillights..........angel eye headlights.......sport bumper with circular foglights as opposed to the square ones on the 528i.....and the same bigger brakes used on the 540i...interior wise the steering wheel(s) changes and the NAV screen (if equipped) is the full screen version rather than the smaller screen found on the 528i. As for the under the hood the 528i has a 2.8-liter DOHC 24-valve inline six producing 190 bhp @ 5300 rpm and 206 lb-ft of torgue @ 3950 rpm......while the 530i has a 3.0 liter straight 6 DOHC 24-valve with Dual VANOS producing 231 bhp.

I would even hazard a guess that driven in the same manner, the 530i will be more economical to refuel than the 528i, as the bigger engine is working less for the same amount of load.

Why do you ask the difference between a 528i and a 530i? Are you trying to decide on which one to get? I would definitely go for the 530i if the budget allows for it.

Bigger brakes, more power, clear indicators, angel eyes, and German made ZF automatic gearbox on the 530i - the latter years even have a nicer 3 spoke steering wheel instead of the blocky 4 spoke one.

I believe that she already has a 528i. From inception of the '01 530i Sport Pack they had the 3 spoke M steering wheel, which changed over to the smaller 3 spoke M steering wheel in '02-'03.......the non sport models continued to have the 4 spoke steering wheels from '01-'03.

528 will be either M52 or M52TU engine (vanos vs. double vanos). 530 is even more
refined version of the engine, called M54 also double vanos (inlet and exhaust). More hp,
flatter torque curve, and so on. The rest is cosmetic details, And oh, the brakes already
mentioned is a good thing

Thanks

Thanks guys.. Still new to the whole BMW world and I get a lot out of reading all of your posts.
I still think my 528 that I got in Oct is possessed.. I have posted this before and taking it in today to my mechanic.

Here are my issues: In the morning or really whenever the car is cold and I start it.. While warming up if I wait about 2-3 min all of the sudden the idle starts rising and falling. Kinda like when an O2 is bad. After I drive it and it warms up then this goes away.

When I come to a stop sometimes I hear some noise.. I know this is strange so bear with me.. a noise like something is shutting off.. like when a CD changes in the changer.. Buts it not the changer... It's a mechanical sound of some sort and I am baffled by that one.

Also I have a dead spot in the gas.. For example when I am taking off or turning from a stop at a light.. I hit the gas and the car accels with no hesitation.. shifts once then I get this big blank spot.. hesitation or dead spot.. then accels again.. At first I thought just when the car was cold.. But it happens all the time..

Brought it in and had full tune up done.. Changed fuel filter, plugs.. the whole thing. Still having the problem..

My check engine like comes on randomly usually a day or so after I fuel up.. So I swapped out the gas cap.. But it's still happening..

All of these things and NO CODES.. not even when the check engine light is on...it is on again today and I have not gotten gas since Sunday

Psychop you gave me some suggestions the last time I asked about the hesitation and I am bringing those to my shop today..

Any other suggestions you all have would be great.
Otherwise I guess I wait for something to break.. Either that or as I said The car is possesed so maybe I need a priest..haha

to be completely accurate when writing imaginary numbers it is always customary to include the real part of the number ... therefore the correct answer is

0+2i

sorry could not help myself ...

How many miles on the car? From what you describe, it could be a few things:

Cats going bad
MAF going bad
O2 sensor

What I gather is that the computer is probably reading some bad info from a sensor that's slowly failing and thus adjusting the engine "funny" at certain points and certain times.

Whats the MAF?

and could a bad CAT make the dead spot or hesitation in the acceleration?

Sorry, the MAF is the air sensor....

When my MAF was dying on me, it caused hesitation problems and lack of throttle above 4k RPM. Finally, when it fullly died, the car would not even start. Most folks at the time swore up and down that my Cats were bad but at 12k (at the time), I just didn't believe it.

With these cars and their computers and a myriad of sensors, some times you never know that that could cause that kind of a problem. With no error codes being stored in your car's memory, this will make it even tougher to diagnose. You need to find a really good and experienced BMW mechanic to take a ride with you.

Was planning on taking it in today but have not been able to get out of the office. Thanks for the input.. Will keep everyone posted on the exorcism...
