That blows. Still, think how much worse the crash would have been 26 years ago before crumple zones etc.

I'm just like the others Turp. Sorry to hear about the accident, but glad to hear that you're OK. They'll put the car back together for you and before you know it you'll be off for another ED trip! Best of luck.

Turpiwa,

I just saw the thread. Sorry to hear it. Really glad to hear that you are safe and were not hurt in anyway. I worry about trucks and SUV all the time. Several truck and SUV drivers drive recklessly.
As a lot of folks have said, the car can always be replaced.

How long is the lease? Do I see 'another' ED on its way? Just trying to look on the bright side (but seriously, I'm really sorry to see those photos. I can only imagine how bad I would feel in the same situation.)

I came very close recently... a big SUV abruptly turned into my lane without looking. Good brakes and no one close behind me saved the day!

Mein Auto: Depends on the day!
still weird that there was no airbag deployment..... how fast were you going? at least a bag should have gone off.... did the pretensioners fire? I would guess not if you were able to drive it, so it must have been under 20 MPH, since the battery disconnect did not go, the airbags did not go. I would guess you do not have as much damage as it looks. Airbags, pre tensioner and the battery disconnect are expensive and they are all intact. You probably crushed the crumple can and some minor stuff. If it is more substantial the airbag and other safety items should have gone off. In an accident that severe they should have and if it is that severe and they didn't I would call BMW and have them investigate why it did not work; this could be a big issue. Thank goodness you are alright! I was thinking I saw another person with a similar accident and the airbags went off and BMW Assist called them..... that is why I wonder how fast and the severity of your accident. I am now a bit concerned there is a blind spot for the sensors or something. Best of Luck!

It is pretty substantial - I think at least the right rail (not sure if that's the word) may be bent.

I'm guessing $10k +

First off, glad you were not hurt. Second, sorry about your loss.

I was on Ebay just last night surfing around and looked at '06 3ers. There were several "totalled", but "repairable" '06 3ers there and most of them didn't look as bad as yours. These were cars that had been declared a total loss and then bought from the insurance company. fyi

btw, apparently the passenger airbag sensor does work, 'cause the passenger airbag had not deployed in most of the cars I looked at.

Absolutely.

As someone else mentioned - my only worry is the resulting potential squeaks and rattles. At a little over 3000 miles I had none of some of the reported squeaks and rattles - touch wood.

Yeh - I have to confess I don't know the requirements for airbag deployment.

I was stationary when it happened? I saw him coming and had time to stop - and say F%#$k and brace before he hit.

3 years long- there is definitely another ED planned for the end of the lease - always was. In fact we plan on combining it with a trip to the Beijing Olympics in 2008
If it was a write off (which I doubt but would be nice - except for the waiting - Why do I feel a tinge of guilt wanting my baby replaced ) I would definitely be doing an 'unscheduled ED

Check with your local laws. If you were stationary, does it help make it the other driver's fault?

You know it's funny - I was just thinking about that after I responded to Map's post - I'll have to look into that.

Sorry to hear about the crash, but I presume you're fine.

You can replace the car, you can't replace your health. Hopefully that makes you feel better.

Sorry to hear about your accident - I know exactly how u must feel. Don't worry, they will fix it or give you a new one. However, try and find the BEST BMW repair shop in your area since the insurance company gives you the option to get the car repaired from any shop you want. Getting the car to the best repair place is crutial.

That sucks big time. I know how much you have been wanting this car and looking forward to owning it.

I would venture to guess that your repairs would cost close to $25K. Even that is not high enough to get the car totaled.

It is going to be a painful 2 months to be with out your car.

I am glad to hear that you were not injured.

I think you are on the west side of town but if you need a recommedation on a body shop I would into Metropolitan Collision Services but they are inside the Loop.

lost my sauce

Ok, those pics made me puke into my latte. Man after all the ED work and wait, makes me sick so I can only imagine how you feel.

Only thing to do is concentrate on 2008 and make the best of it, good luck.

Also, think it depends on the state, but alot of states have % faults in regards to accidents and there is almost never a 100% at fault accident, in your case it sounds like there is at least some fault on both sides in this situation...

Did I read this right... You weren't moving (stationary)? In other words the other vehicle hit you? If this is the case its not your fault. The guy can't just run into you even if you are parked/stopped in his way.
