Keyless Entry & Window Problems

First, the remote entry function on my master key suddenly stopped working...the manual says that it is continually charged while it is in the ignition and I am driving so it couldn't be dead could it?

Second; I hit the up button on my passenger side rear window and it rolled all the way up. The second that it hit the top I heard a loud [I]bang[/ and sounded like glass breaking and the window slowly rolled all the way down. Now when I hit the up button I just hear some clicking and turning noises but the window doesn't move. Anyone have any ideas as to what is happening in these two cases?

The first issue could have multiple culprits...some we can guess at, and some we would have no idea without asking further questions. Lets start with some questions:
  1. Has the key been dropped (hard) recently or prior to it not unlocking?
  2. Can you UNLOCK the car but it just won't lock?
  3. Do you have a 2nd remote key so we can determine if the issue is key related or a problem with the FZV (central locking) system?
  4. When you lock the car MANUALLY using the door lock cylinder, does the fuel filler door lock, or can you still push it open freely?

The 2nd issue sounds like the very common window regulator issue. This problem is so common, you can find DIYs by just googling a fe key words, or search his it, or check out the parked threads that list these frequently asked question. The 3,5,7,& X series all suffer with this affliction.

Thanks for the reply

Thanks for the reply,
I haven't dropped or banged it to my knowledge and when I used my other master key it opens just fine. When I open or lock it manually it works and the filler cap does lock.

If all the above is true, and the affected key can still start the car then it points to the key itself. The central locking system (FZV) appears to be working under all circumstances EXCEPT when using the one affected key...as well as the DWA (anti-theft alarm siren system) and EWS (immobilizing system).

If you get a chance, here's another test to perform, lock the car manually with the key (or lock the car with the central locking button while sitting inside the car)...then try to UNLOCK the car with the remote (the one you're having issues with).

The reason is...if the culprit is the key's battery is dying (or dead):
  • at 2.6 volts - 3 volts the key will lock/unlock the car
  • at 2.2 volts - 2.6 volts the key will UNLOCK the car but not LOCK the car
  • below 2.2 volts the key will neither UNLOCK or LOCK the car

Yes. There are a couple of posts and I think an article about opening over on xoutpost. They even include info of the battery you need to find and include full instructions but beware as it is not for the faint of heart.
