rpm's go up when shifting

I have a 2000 323i and when I shift from 1 to 2 and from 2 to 3, the rpms increase slightly, then go back down like they are supposed to do. This is very annoying. I have heard a lot of causes of this from throttle sticking to cleaning the throttle body to the clutch. Oh, and I also heard that the transmission needs to be reprogrammed.

Any ideas? Anyone else had this issue? I am stumped!

"Smart-ass response to a dumb-ass question" might be more appropriate....you mention "it might be the clutch", and then in the next breath "the trans might need reprogramming".
Do you see anything wrong with this picture ?

I understand where Fast Bob is coming from..but seems like 90% he is the first to respond to questions and most of the time its "go read the wiki".. Makes sense to read the wiki first and post if nothing is gained from it. Is it laziness on some of the posters here and just want a quick answer?
Probably.. The same questions come up all the time from new members. Again I can understand where Fast Bob is coming from and yes 90% of people coming in here with questions are in the wiki. And there are people who read the wiki and still have questions. Also have to realize that these cars are getting dirt cheap and I suspect lots of young owners here asking some of these questions. No offense but the demographics on these owners are not the same as some of the original owners of these cars that paid almost $40k on the car new. I can see how fastbob will rub people the wrong way sometimes (doesn't help with some of his snide remarks sometimes), no reason to get mad at him though. There are also some members here that will give advice over and over. For myself I don't mind replying if it doesn't take much of my time to reply. I will then follow it up with "google it" or search in the wiki. Sorry for the rant.

I am perfectly willing to help anyone who is willing to help himself. Reading the Wiki goes a long way toward educating yourself, and will at least give you a clue as to what questions should be asked. When I see someone who has been here for three years, has obviously never read the Wiki, and is now asking dumb-ass questions that they should not be asking, then YES, that does rub me the wrong way.

Reading Is Fundamental ! (Try it sometime !)
