performance chip

hello...im looking into posibly buying a performance chip for my bmw...im not positive on what kind of chip to purchase..there are many different types out there and i dont kno what one to buy...i see many different kinds sold on ebay and also in online stores...the ones on ebay are around 40$ as aposed to 200$ elseware...is there a difference in the chips?...they are not used on ebay...they are gotten straight from the manufacturer...if i wer to buy a chip would there be any other changes i wood be making to my vehicle other than using 91 octane fuel...my friend has one in his bmw and had some issues with pinging..he added som octane booster and solved the problem....im jus lookin for som info on the chip before i buy it thx guys!!

I hear the Conforti chip is one of the best, but yes you have to use the higher octane fuel.

The Mark D'Silva chip is also a quality alternative to the Conforti chip.

Except for the revised rev limiter, the change is barely noticeable though.

hit or miss knockoffs. take your chances.

I put one in my 85 325e, and it works beautifully, to this day. Amazing difference. According to my G-tech, took about 1.5 seconds off my 1/4 mile time. Of course, this is an eta with 200,000 miles, but still... Mileage dropped about 10% as well, but that could have been me, partially....

Is that good to go from 20 seconds to 18.5?

I have an eprom chip from ebay in my car.It was easy to install. It was supposed to raise the rev limit 400rpms and add like 20 horsepower, didn't notice any difference until.............................i bought a cone filter, my car revs to about 6100@41mph in first. and its an automatic. I think the only way to test is to buy a cone filter and see if it makes the car shift later ........if not, i guess the $30 ebay chip actually works.

I currently have a chip from PowerChip. The downloaded the current program and what ever mods i had to the car and they programed it at the spot. I had to cycle out old gas for a week and started to use 91 octane.
My rev limiter is a lot higher, my 2nd gear gets me to 80mph.
