e36 m3 vs e46 m3

hey guys i have a 97 m3 with the following mods . cai , conforti shark . headers and exhaust , m50 intake swap , under drive pulleys and fan removal mod . light weight single mass flywheel and sachs clutch . the reason for my post have any of u e46 m3 guys running stock ever raced a e36 m3 with similar mods and if so how did u do . ty in advance for your replies . p.s. i have driven a 2002 e46 m3 and i didnt see a big diff since i did my mods but i havent had the chance to race a e46

You'd be pretty even through first and then he'd start to pull on you. If were talking 1/4 mile... E46 has you by 2 or 3 cars. You're shifting at 7k, he at about 8, and if he's got SMG...

Without custom tuning you're probably not making much more power over stock. Unless you spent big bucks the headers are doing nothing except killing your low and midrange torque, especially without tuning. The intake and exhaust are worth 10-15hp and the M50 manifold more than anything else just fixes what was wrong with the S52 - it's still not much (if any) stronger than a decent S50 above 5,000 RPM.

Bottom line, E46 M3's have more agressive gearing to take advantage of their extra 1000 RPM rev limit and they will do a number on even a modded E36 M3 in straightline acceleration.
