7000 rpm on new M3
I didn't do it! I let my stepfather take it for a drive, warned him about the 5500 break-in rev limit, and next thing I know we're at 7000. Just for a second or so. The car has about 500 miles on it.
Now, my relationship with him is more important than the car, so I didn't make a big deal about it. But I do worry about two things: 1) Is the likely to be any damage to the engine? I suspect not, but I really don't know a lot about it. 2) Is this likely to cause warranty problems? It's my understanding that info about this incident is stored, and can/will be read out at the 1200-mile service. Any ideas? |

I have two ideas..
1. NEVER under any circumstances let someone drive your car, even if absolutely necessary, which it never is, ie. in the event of nuclear war, etc. ; 2. Even if a chick who wants to drive your car is freaking unbelievably hot, and you want in her pants, you STILL dont let her drive your car. It's not worth it, ask me how I know. P.S. I dont think you have a whole lot to worry about, but it would concern me a little. |

Don't worry about it man
As long as the car was warmed up properly, revving it a bit didn't cause any damage. Just in case you didn't know, there's two schools of thought on the subject of break-in, read up on it : Some say you should cane the car from new, others adhere to the owner's manual recommendations. http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm It's kind of a touchy subject, each side believes that doing what the other recommends is hurting the engine. My personal recommendation is to turn off your computer, and get that engine boucing off the limiter

Really soon your engine will fall out of the car. Pistons will fly, rods will screech to a halt...
Seriously, don't worry about it at all. It's fine, won't hurt a thing. Just don't do it again. Like someone else said, it if was warmed up enough there is no reason to worry at all. Even on a cold engine it is just fine more than likely.

youre car engine is redline tested before it leaves the factory. if it was warmed up when your dad did it, youll be fine. just dont do it if you can help it until after 1200 miles.

Don't worry, but don't make a habit of it.

As stated earlier, I wouldn't worry about it too much provided that the oil was warm when it happened--just don't make a habit of it until the engine is properly broken in and rings are seated.
