says something about the driver/wearer.
and one should not IMHO use the phone when driving --- such drivers in my congested area drive slowly, dangerously, and are breaking the law. my arm feels off without the satisfying weight of a fine watch on my wrist. (almost as good as a steering wheel.) and I get to keep it on when I leave the car.

I dont search for prestige via material goods. But... For those that want merely nice quality as opposed to the "Bling, look at me" crowd, I fully understand.

Hmm...owning a M3 and naming your handle after it has nothing to do with prestige?

Performance not prestige, imo.

"M3" has cachet. Just like Patek. Or s/s Daytona.
The 335i isn't far "behind" at probably 340hp and 340ft lb --- but lacks the "cachet" (and perhaps ultimate track ability of the M3 at 10/10ths in the hands of a great driver).
And few recognize a Patek or even the s/s Daytona --- it doesn't even look like a Rolex to the "average Joe/Jane." No bling factor with these. (As the Stones say "I'm a man of wealth and taste. Have some sympathy or I'll lay your soul to waste.") Last edited by akula57; 11-25-2006 at 02:42 PM. |

I think a "prestige" BMW would be like a loaded 7-series, but an M3 to me seemed like a good value...a daily driver with a little oomph, also a 335i....but M3's do not strike me as a soft palmed mans "prestige" mobile.. When I am old enough for a "comb-over" I will go "prestige mobile", Rolex & Geritol.

Just graduated college and I got the Breitling Bentley motors T with anthracite face. This thing is so amazing, not to mention way too expensive for a watch. But it was a gift and a long time coming so I wear with pride and feel super cool. I am a watch guy so it is only fitting I have it.

Unless you are filty rich, I can't see why anyone would want to buy a Rolex. To make a statement that you are somewhat successful? My $35 Timex Expedition is more watch than I need...accurate, time and date stamp, multi lap chronograph, 2 time zones, alarm, up/down reset counter, 100m water resistance.

Santa added one to my collection, SS & 18k white gold Turn-o-Graph.
I really like the red second hand and date numerals. Nice contrast.

Right now, I'm torn between my Rolex Daytona (stainless, white Rolex movement) and the "lesser" stainless Seamaster in dark blue (America's Cup edition). The Rolex has the cachet and chronograph but the Omega glows like no other watch with its generous luminova markers (brighter than any Panerai) and is very comfortable. So, the Rolex during the day and the Omega at night.
Then again, the Blainpain Military had the best bracelet of the three and the Arabic numbers are cool and simple. |

I sold my Breitling in the fall because I was constantly forgetting to take it off before going to hockey. It was a matter of time before it got stolen out of a locker room.
