Only watch I own nowadays is an ESQ that I got as a gift, but almost never wear it.

I don't usually wear a wrist watch, but when I do I wear a Corum Admiral's Cup Chronometer.

Seen that before. I'm not sure how you can turn down a deal like that. Hmm . . . new 6-er coupe or a watch . . .

well I do wear titanium watches ... mine are a weeeEEEeeee bit more affordable than that.

Ti is the metal of choice for those with allergies to nickel and other metals (gold never sets allergies off - but apart from being super-expensive, gold watches look naff imo - if I had all the money in the world I wouldn't wear one).

I have a hard time spending serious cash on a watch but will eventually do so, because I do like watches a lot and wear one every day. I've had my eye on a reasonably priced Accutron Gemini but have not pulled the trigger because somehow it seems one could always spend money on more sensible things, such as put that in the College Fund for the child, for example.

That being said, I have 3 main watches which aren't spectacular, but I like them nonetheless.

Citizen Calibre 2100: This one I have gotten some compliments on before because it looks more expensive than it is. Quite large and heavy (especially on me, since I have small arms) and a pretty neat watch.



Bruno & Söhnle Tinum: Nothing spectacular, just a basic quartz watch, especially if you consider the watches some Glashütte manufacturers produce. Got this one as a gift and it is my "suit and tie" kind of watch, since it isn't as "loud" as the Citizen.



Bergana Automatic: This one I really like for nostalgic reasons. For one thing, the watch is almost 40 years old. It is made by a German company that does not exist anymore and used to make its own automatic movements. Truth be told, I found little info on this watch and am not sure what movement it does have in it and I have not opened it up. An uncle to my dad's father won this watch at a German Game Show ("Ein Platz an der Sonne") in 1975 and while the watch it is not spectacular looking, it is kind of unique and a family heirloom in some ways. It looks basically like the picture below, but the face has a slight green hue to it rather than blue. The original band was lost and I have since replaced it with black shark leather.

The shipping cost of $9.95 is an absolute bargain, if it's insured.

Nope - you're not the only one.

Given that there are members posting who own *much* older Bimmers, that in some cases cost less than some of these really expensive watches being showcased, the thread has a real possibility of insulting (imo).

It certainly has the potential to be snobbery of a the worst kind.

The attitude on display in the thread title (as I read it) is exactly the kind of stuff that gets many (all?) BMW owners labeled as jack-asses or arrogant @ss-hats - again, imo.

fwiw - I have watches that range from $100 on upwards - and my *everyday* watch has an MSRP of approx $300 but can be found online for $225 - my choice of watch is LARGELY down to an allergy I have to metal.. so what *exactly* does that have to do with being a bimmer owner?!?!?

I think I never read the entire title. I was apparently just seeing "What wristwatch do you wear?" Thought it was just a watch collecting sort of thread so being a watch guy I posted.

But yea, now that I read the entire title I agree. That's the stuff that gets us labeled. I remember when I did my first ED for my first BMW, was therefore new to BMW and was at the BMW shop. I didn't want to buy any BMW wear because I didn't want people to see me wearing it and label me as one of those BMW owners. I just got a free hat at the Drive event at the dealer yesterday, but can't see me ever wearing it for much the same reason, even though I'm now 5+ years into my BMWdom

I would only get that if I could get free shipping with my Amazon Prime membership, but I'm not paying $10 for shipping!

Its like the review I read of someone who stayed at The Mandarin hotel in NYC for $1200/night and complained because they were charged $5-10 for internet on top of that. I guess with that watch its already so deeply discounted at 55% off that they can't take the hit on the shipping cost to eat into their profit margin.

+1 - Mrs wyb bought me a ball-cap and CD holder as stocking fillers one Christmas - for similar reasons, I've never worn the cap and I don't know where it is...

I have a BMW Williams F1 Team hat that looks nice and I wear from time to time (usually to car events, but also other places.) I've never gotten any weird looks from anyone. I think a lot of these "perceptions" is what you make of it. You love cars and like to tell people you do? Why not wear a BMW hat? How is that any different from wearing an NFL team hat.

Your point remains though that the thread title was a poor choice. My dad owns a 1998 316i with 250k miles on it. What's a watch befitting of his car; a $10 Walmart special?

I don't have a problem with the BMW team drive hat at all - I'm just not into logos on hats that much - it was the one that just had a BMW logo on it I really didn't care for. I also have F1 team hats, including a Ferrari one - I'd never wear it - I bought it as a souvenir.

fwiw - I'd never wear an NFL hat either.

Maybe you haven't encountered idiots on the road - I have... I've been called names while filling up at a gas station, nearly driven off the road while overtaking semi-trucks on an interstate and I've had the odd comment about the car being nice as well - there are @ss-hats who look at the car as make REALLY odd assumptions - trust me - there are!

I find it particularly odd when an idiot driver makes some smart-alec comment about the car... I had it happen once with a guy driving a big loaded F250 King Ranch and I happen to know that his truck was > $45k - so I asked him politely if he knew how much my CPO 335i would have cost - his redneck response was "I dunno, but I bet it was a LOT!" - to which I calmly replied that it was about $10k less than his truck... so I don't know why he was all uppity about my choice of car... he shut up and continued pumping gas....

I don't think there is anything that "befits" a particular car owner - a watch is a personal choice just like anything. I know a very wealthy guy who wears a $20 Casio that he's had for 10+ years!

He mostly drives a 20+ year old van conversion but also has nice cars I could only dream of... to look at him you'd think he's just an old guy without two nickels to rub together - and he is FAR from it.

The point about the thread title I think that watches are NOT something that "befits" a certain car owner - to me anyone who thinks their watch is more than a personal choice of timepiece *is* making a ridiculous leap into somewhere that really shows their lack of credibility in my books.

I don't buy my cars to impress others - and I don't buy my clothes or watches for those reasons either...

I would be for changing the thread title to something less cringe-worthy...
