does not sound right:(

I was driving home from work and came to a stop light and shifted from 1st to second a little hard..not that bad the car is brand new only has 600 miles on it. now when I shift from first to second there is a weird sound it does not sound right. its hard to explain but it sounds like a rattle is in the back of the car..

any ideas??

is this normal during the breakin period?

when i shift SMG 03, at 6000 rpm's or more there is almost a thud from the rear end,,,is this normal? Had it a week, only 24,000 miles.

Drive train thuds and clunks are normal for the M3. Most sports cars make lots of funky machincal noises. Clunk usually happens for me at low speeds, downshifting from 2nd to 1st to pull into a driveway or garage.

its not a clunk its more of a whine. when I shift from 1st to 2nd a little hard it makes he sound

just took the car to the dealer. He said that the tinty rattle sound from the exhaust is normal.

The dealer said
"drive it like you stole it"

no comp package. The tinty sound only happens when you hit about 4K RPM and shift to 2nd and hit the gas

I think you are the first person to legitimately think the car was broken because of the exhaust rasp.

I think it was the service guy from the dealer...things have been a little slow and getting an M3 in the shop that has been revved to 11,000 rpm during break-in would mean some good training opportunities for a couple of the junior techs.

he pretty much said..dont worry about the M3..it makes different sounds then you are use to.

Just drive it like you stole it...of course not till atleast 1200 Miles...

1200? I thought you had to wait until 2500 to make some real funky noises........1-2 shift at 8000rpm?

the dealer told me 1200...if you list the hood you will see a label that says 1200 miles right on it.

I have a clear sticker on the driverside up by the visor on my windshield that says something different. My BMW dealer races M3's and tole me to wait at least 2500 miles before really pushing the car. Anyone else heard something different?

Gradually increase rev's and speed between 1200 and 2500 miles.
