Z4 Performace?

Hello guys,

This is my first post, and hopefully not the last.
I am planning on purchasing a 2003 BMW Z4 2.5i. With the options I chose, it came out to be $39,000, which is in my price range.

My question is though, what would be the maximum wheel size (rims, dimensions) would fit on the Z4, and what type of engine modifications are (will) be availible (Supercharger, chip)?

Thank You!

The car isn't even at dealers yet, so nobody knows.

My question is why do you think you need bigger tires? The car will definitely have enough tread.

As far as mods go, the engine isn't anything new so anything that works for other M54s will work for the Z4 engines. A supercharger will take a bit for companies to fit them in the engine bay. If you want a SC why not just start by getting a 3.0?

Congrats!

Sounds like you're getting a similar package that I am. If you're already thinking of boosting the engine, you should seriously consider the 3.0 engine. The 2.5 matches my driving style, but you may need more. Sounds to me like it would be better to get the 3.0 than trying to mod the 2.5 and still be disappointed. By the time you're done, it will probably be more cost effective to get the 3.0 up front.

Maybe you guys are right, I will consider the 3.0. I would have to sacrifice a package though, does the sport button really make a difference?

I am going to put a deposit tomarrow.

Thanks for the help.

If things like "supercharger" in your first post, do you want to give up the sport button and all that it implies?

A few comments from folks that have been to the dealer training ride and drives have stated the sport handling makes a significant difference. I know they're dealers, but the write up suggests that the sport package is a must. I'd say that's partiuclarly so if you plan on staying with a 2.5 engine. Based on my driving (touring, twisty turnies - NOT track), I decided the 5 speed manual, 2.5 engine with sport was more cost effective than a 3.0 with or without sport. YMMV....

The other day . . .

I just got a brochure of types for the Z4 from someone at Design Works (that had Chris Bangle sign it for me ) I will see it list any performance specs.

sport option...

Several people over at roadfly.com have test driven the Z4. Those that comment on the sport option say it makes a significant difference and strongly advise getting that package. As far as I know, these are not dealers.

Z4 performance . . .

I'm looking at 'sheer roadster', a magazine for all associates of the BMW Group. Lower on the front it's mark "Internal Communication". In the back of the magazine, there are at least some specs:

drag coefficient: 0.35

0-60 mph (well, 100 km) times:

2.5i manual: 7.0
2.5i auto: 7.5

3.0i manual: 5.9
3.0i auto: 6.2
