The official Eisenmann Race 76mm M-tech e39 540 exhaust thread. (Pics and Vid)

Hopefully this thread will be helpful for anyone considering an exhaust for their 540. The exhaust is an eisenamnn race exhaust with 76mm tips and made for a M-technic bumber. I have compiled some pictures and a video. The first clip in the video is stock, the second one is stock with the factory resonator in place, and the last one is with the eisenmann muffler in place as well as the stock resonator. Nothing else engine wise has been done to the car. Butt dyno tells me it feels a little faster from about 3k rpms on. No loss of low end torque was noticed. I paid $850 for the muffler. I ordered it on a Monday and it came that Wednesday. Great turnaround! I didn't get to weigh the stock or eisenmann muffler but the eisenmann felt about half the weight of the stock muffler. Fit and finish is top notch. The kit came with all necessary clamps and the hanger was welded onto the muffler and you reuse your stock rubber hanger. Installations is very straightforward and can be done by anyone with some mechanical experience. The only part I couldn't do was weld the pipe on. It doesn't require it but I felt better knowing there wouldn't be any movement or leaks down the road. This exhaust requires you to trim the M-technic valance. It fit fine when I first put it in but after driving it about 100 miles it started to melt the valance. So I went ahead and trimmed the valance to make it fit. This exhaust swells a lot when it gets hot. I've never seen anything like it. When I first put the exhaust on it was quite quiet. It has gotten deeper and a little louder since then. I have put about a 150 miles on it. That is how many miles are on it in the video.

Love the sound.
Looks like the stock came welded, did you cut off the stock yourself? Thanks.

Yes the stock exhaust is welded to the resonator. You have to cut it yourself and then clamp the eisenmannn over the stock pipe. Very easy. I used a Millwalkee sawzaw with a metal cutting blade. Worked great.

moji2000 - Not loud at all. I will have an interior video in the next week or so. I dont know how it would sound on a 6 cylinder vs. the 8 cylinder. I would imagine that it wouldn't be quite as deep.

Hey MJTSUB.....looks and sounds great. I have been thinking about doing this as well, so it is a good and timely post.
Two questions....were to you buy it, and what did you use to trim the valance ?
Thanxs

I highly recommend this exhaust. The fit and finish and sound is perfect. Not too loud that you draw too much attention or hate driving your 5 series but loud enough to know its running and has some power to it.

I purchase my exhaust from www.autoaddictions.com. They dont have the exhaust listed on their website but they can get it for you. I ordered it Monday and it came that Wednesday. I was very pleased.

I used a dremel tool to trim the valance. They make a bit that cuts plastic and I used a sanding bit to smooth the cut. I then used 220 grit sandpaper to make it even smoother. (The grit of the dremel one was 120) This was a tedious task but only because I already had the muffler in place. It would have been much easier before I had it welded. If you look at the dremel picture I used the bit that is 3 from the right of the tool that is in place on the dremel. And I used 2 from the left to sand.

When I contacted eisenmann. I asked them about the differences. They told me that the sport exhaust is just barely louder than stock. It also doesn't make as much extra HP as the race version. The muffler is the same size but the piping diameter inside the muffler is slightly smaller. A friend of mine has the sport version on his e38 740 which is the same motor I have and his is way louder than my race version. Go figure! I would recommend the race version. I dont like really loud exhausts unless its on a sports car or a car that is not my daily driver and I have no regrets.

MJTSUB: nice thread! do you know what the difference is between Eisenmann and Kellener exhaust? it appears they are exactly the same with Kelleners being more expensive. Thanks!

cutting the m-technic valance

MJTSUB:

would you please offer a bit more on the cutting-of-the-valance process? i see that eisenhaus has a template (but all the instructions are in German!) but are you cutting away the right side or left side of the existing cut out? do you attach the paper template with the left side lined up on the existing cut out's edge or the right side... i can't tell from the eisenhaus instructions. Thanks in advance... GREAT THREAD!

Thank you for the installation advice!

The template that eisnahus provides is a joke. You have to cut both the Left and Right side of the valance as well as contour the top curve. Every eisenmann exhaust need to have the valance trimmed more than the template. It looks great when its done though. Fit and finish everywhere else is top notch. I cant find the eisenmann video yet. I have to check some of my backup drives. Ill look though.
