Question How many saw the new M6 at Bimmerfest?

And did you get any pics?

I heard that the driver wasn't supposed to bring it...

Note the "DIST" distributor plates. This car belongs to BMW and probably came from the BMW VPC in Port Hueneme (oxnard) where they keep press cars and other cars that are going through the testing process in death valley etc.

Do you guys think this is some smart PR work from BMW NA to let the BMW community know of the manual trans M6 (and M5 I guess)? If so, that's some pretty good validation of the visibility of Bimmerfest, both forum and event.

BMW had a red M6 at Gateway Tech in St. Louis last month. Nothing disguised or covered up. They even had a questionaire to fill out on it. I'm still not feelin' the 6er style, but it was there with CF top and trim, SMG III, etc. I do really like the M6 wheels. With all the butt-ugly wheels BMW is doing now it's refreshing to see that at least one designer there still has some taste.

Me and my bro were parked 100 feet from both the M6 and Ford Gt (showed up like around2:30 or 3pm). I didn't notice the M6 until my bro pointed it to me. Then, few minutes later the Ford parked.

Just like last year when the E60 M5 showed up on the rally even though it didn't come to US till this past October! They probably work for BMW and want to see what the latest trends are and how things are recieved etc. Why not swing by if your in the general vicinity and your whole line of work revolves around BMW's while drumming up some interest in a new model? Hopefully they don't ever copy much of those "show" cars there, yuck.

The one in your pictures look like it's driver is on the right hand side, whereas the one Jon posted looks like it's on the left.

Strange.. maybe two M6's?

Notice that in the picture, everything else is backward, such as the "CALL BOX" sign in the background. I think the picture was reversed, so it appears that the driver is on the right-hand side.

When the mirror image is shown, you see that everything is forward and the driver is on the left, and it makes more sense that the person snapping the picture is the passenger hanging out the window, not the driver.

Since the license plate wasn't blurred out and if that wasn't supposed to bring it to the fest, I'm sure BMW probably know who drove it.

The one at the LA Auto show had SMG, not manual.

BMW has stated that a manual M5 and M6 are coming to the US so that is no secret. It will be a 6 speed though and not a 7 since 6 speed will have the normal H pattern and a seven speed would be unusable because the shift pattern would not be an H, rather, it would be all over the place.

Marc

A 7 speed would have to be a sequential gearbox (back/forth) even if it had a clutch pedal. But you are right, BMW has said the manual M5/M6 will be 6-speed.
