A couple of interior wear questions

The problem is pretty clear from these pictures I think:

Can I replace that part by itself? It looks like it can be taken out, but I'm not sure. Also, there is similar wear on the armrest. It's the front part of it (the one with the phone). Thanks for your help.

Why not paint them. I have the same problem on mine and seriously thinking of just painting them.

It's my dad's car right now (mine on June 1st!), but I don't believe he does. I think it's just natural wear from getting in and out of the car.

I was thinking of painting it too. If you end up finding a match please tell us 97BMW540i. I know I'd appreciate it and I'm sure other people will too

I bought interior vinyl paint at pep boys

First I began by cleaning/removing the remaining the paint with a scotch bright pad. This cleaned it and lightly and prepped it to recieve paint. The next step was some extensive taping... I used an razor to cut in the little crevices. 3 or 4 coats of this vinyl paint and the inside handle looks brand new. Just spend some time looking through the color choices to get as close to OEM color as possible, but otherwise an easy afternoon fix!!

I have the same problem with both the driver and passenger side. I attached the image from RealOEM.com. It looks like to the part that is rubbing off is part of the door panel and not the handle. Anyone else that can help?

Exclamation Don't be lazy!!

First I began by cleaning/removing the remaining the paint with a scotch bright pad. This cleaned it and lightly and prepped it to recieve paint. The next step was some extensive taping... Look at the following link for the stuff I used
http://www.duplicolor.com/products/vinyl.html

The color chart on the right shows a couple of beige options... you'll probably use either
HVP108 Desert Sand
- or -
HVP113 Medium Beige

I found this site that looks promising: http://www.leatherrepairkits.com/repair_kit.htm

Hey Jordon (Jbimmer1), did you ever do the Dinan SW mod? If so, what do you think?

any good leather detailer can fix it

I wore piping on my drivers seat down and took the grey leather down to black real color of leather on passenger seat when i tried to clean adhesive to fix sun roof bellows dripped on seat, A leather detail person matched color perfectly. It cost me $120 well worth it. no parts had to be replaced, it took him about 1/2 hour.

With my luck, I would try to fix it myself, screw it up and end up paying someone else to fix the original problem plus my fix job. I think I am going to let a professional fix my wear spots. A leather detail person sounds like a great idea!

Thanks!

You know I actually didnt go through with it. THose a$$holes never bothered to mention the fact the tranny software, the only real reason I was coming in the first place, isn't even compatible with my year's transmission! This shop was nearly two hours away imagined how pissed I'd be to found out I would ahve come all that way for nothing. So either they don't know their product or they didn't pay any attention to what year I told them my car was.... either way not good business practice.

And in regards to this interior thing... I used that product from duplicolor and it works! So I can honestly say the best coarse of action is to paint the thing. I already know through my own research that that part isn't available seperately.

Painting is the easy part but finding the right color and application could be a real PIA. I found the paint but it's glossy. I'm still looking for something flat.
