check engine light soon
13000 miles and the light turned on any ideas why?

There are literally 100 or more reasons the check engine soon light can turn on. Simple ones like a loose gas cap, or starting the engine before replacing the gas cap to complex ones like failure of some vital part of the emissions system.
Best bet - if it persists - see your dealer. At 13,000 miles you are likely still under warranty.

If you want to avoid the dealership I believe you can go to Autozone, or some similar chain and borrow a code reader to obtain the fault code.
