iDrive

My iDrive died 2 times in the last three months on my 2006 750i. Screen went blank, cell phone died and the iDrive nob just spun. However, after letting the car sit for a period of time the system reset. Am I just the lucky one or has anyone else experienced a similar situation.

You must be lucky. I've had no failures in three years and updates from CIP 8 to 19. Since you should freee maintenace why not go to the dealer and have him check out the source of the fault.

Since the sysem came back on after a period of time a trouble code was not left. The mechanic said, "boy that must be one in a million, you should buy a lotto ticket." Since it happened again today I guess I will have to buy a ticket!

Happened to me like a month after I got the car, got a software update and it's fine.

The I-drive knob was rotating? That is spooky. I am sure that a software upgrade is what they will do, but since your software version is not only on your car, I am sure that something else is wrong, not the software this is NOT a common problem.

Screen went black, iDrive nob spun, shut everything down. Cell phone went dead, used the BMW assist, sure was not like the Onstar commercials. Hate to think of what would have happened had the car not been mobile! However, after sitting for a couple of hours the iDrive and phone activated. I think the phone shut down because of the bluetooth connection. When I parked the car in the driveway and went into the house the phone reactivated. I chalked the entire episode off to too many electronic trying to do too many things at once.

same prob here. software upgrade should do it....

Any way to tell what version of the iDrive I have? That isn't the same as the Navigator software right? I did an update of that to V27.

I have a Blackberry with Bluetooth and my iDrive crashes frequently right after I start the car, especially when it is dark outside and the auto head light comes on or when I back up (the radar screen is on). It works fine after it resets itself, sometimes a couple times in a row. However, it did wipe out my sat radio presets one time. The dealer won't do anything unless it is one of the approved cell phones supposedly listed on the BMW web site. I have just learned to live with it.
