Whose car is trapped at the VPC? Wanna whine?

Who else has a car that is trapped at a VPC? Mine has been there for 10 days now....

I'm trying really hard to be patient. Really.

Actually, it'd be interesting to swap stories about what we've heard about when the cars will be released, and also if anyone has actually received their car recently.

I recall when mine was in the computer, but took days to locate at Port Huineme (sp) or somewhere nearby in S. Cal. "Believe me, it's there, they just have to have a guy go out and locate it." This was right around the time my wife's water could break at any time and I was selling my rental house, I just needed something, anything, to fall in line. Then, the Saturday morning my son was born, I got "the call." The car was at the dealership. I almost took out a structural column with that Active Steering as I drove to the detail area from the sales lobby so they could get out one last little smudge. Active Steering mapping was very sensitive in the early days.

2007 5-series are being held at the port to have a recall performed on the shocks (I think that's what I heard). The backup is getting pretty big... there are supposedly hundreds of cars sitting at the port in New Jersey waiting for this campaign to be performed.

SARAFIL- do you know if this recall applies only to recently produced cars?

Does the recall apply to the 2006 5 series also or is it specific to the 2007 only?

I've heard it's 2007 525 and 530's. Apparently the 550 does not have the issue.

Mine is too, this STINKS ! it has been there for about 2 weeks. My dealer said they are "checking something" on them. I am going stir crazy ! ! I WANT MY NEW RIDE !

Do you have any information on how long a delay it is going to be? Are any getting the shock treatment (ha!) and moving on to dealers and impatient owners, or are they just piling up at the port?

I think a realistic estimate of how long would help my impatience.

I have been shopping for an E60 here in Atlanta and supply is tight. CA at local BMW center told me Friday that there are 1400 5, 6, and 7 series cars waiting at Charleston, SC port to have bushings put on rear end. They estimate 2 hours per car, BMW sent some guys over from Germany to speed up the installation. Apparently they are working 12 hour shifts. Unless this guys is BSing me, it really has messed up supply in the NE and SE.

Thanks for the update...it looks bleak. I kind of hope the CA is a little off on his/her figures -- 1,400 cars sounds like a depressing amount to work through. Maybe by June....

I will check with my dealer tomorrow and post something if I find out anything.

Wondering How many people in california are waiting for a 2007 525? Our car is here in ca but has not got to the dealer, its been 8 days since it got to port.

My 2007 525i arrived at the NJ VPC on 4/1 and it cleared on 4/3 with arrival at the dealership on 4/6. I did not experience any delays in delivery after the car arrived in the US.

I'm optimistic but if there are 1400 cars awaiting, then the backlog will surely affect me also, dropping car off in Munich on 5.14...

Oh well, three days of bliss, then redelivery purgatory

Has anyone confirmed the 1400 cars. I have a sinking feeling that it's not too far off base, because my sales advisor told me last week that there were 800 cars jammed up at the port. Add a few extra days....

That's too bad about the ED worries, but by 5/14 you should be in better shape and the car will probably arrive right on time.

Thats correct about the 1400 cars. Spoke with dealer this AM to add M aero kit to car at VPC. Normally this would be a problem without prior ordering, however, due to the backup and recall the VPC can still get the car done while it waits for the new bushings.

Just spoke to my dealer. He said they worked all weekend on the "strut" problem - and my car should be at the dealership either today or tomorrow...i am not getting overly excited yet.

My dealer also called me today to say that my car (which has been at the Charleston VPC since 4/13) has been "assigned to carrier" on Saturday 4/29 and that it should be at the dealership within a couple of days. Hope he's right!

Now I know why they are calling the March production 2007's. It will take until October to get these cars processed thru the VPC therefore they model year will be just right.

Oh...I didn't read this post before I read the good news about the other people waiting. I guess I shouldn't expect the car any time soon. It sounds like there is more of a backup in NJ.

October ?? I doubt that...I mean seriously, why would they make anyone wait until October when it would be quicker to just assign another exact car that was produced after March.

Yep ! They told me they expect it to be at the dealership my today or tomorrow latest.
