Group Buy: E46 VDO Gauge Kits

LeatherZ is now officially a Bimmerfest paying sponsor. No banner ad yet, but we're working on it. At any rate, we'd like to try to use Bimmerfest to run group buys. We'll start small and then move up into Supersprint, H&R, Bilstein, whatever you guys request.

So here is the deal we're proposing...

E46 VDO Gauge Kit.

Kit includes:
  • Black leather handmade gauge panel
  • VDO Vision series oil pressure gauge
  • VDO Vision series oil temperature gauge
  • VDO Vision series voltmeter gauge
  • VDO oil pressure sender with adapter block
  • VDO oil temperature sender
  • Signature LeatherZ amber illumination bulb covers (match BMW OEM)
  • Oil resistant wiring in multiple colors for easier installation
  • 3 VDO low-profile U-brakcet mounting adapters for gauges
  • Connectors
  • proprietary 13-page LeatherZ instructions with pictures.

Installation takes 4-8 hours depending on skill level. Fits all 6-cylinder E46 cars except S54 M3. S54 M3 oil pressure sender installation requires removal of intake manifold and it is more than most people can handle DIY. We do not recommend it. If you have installation questions, call me. My home number is 425.377.0162. Andy does LeatherZ full time, I do it part time. So call after 6pm PST. We do not post installation instructions for these kits. 2 years ago a cheap hack was copying and re-selling our kits on Ebay for way more than we charge.

We normally sell these kits for $350.00 plus shipping.

For this group buy, prices are as follows:
  • 1-4 buyers: no deal
  • 5-9 buyers: $320 plus shipping
  • 10-14 buyers: $300 plus shipping
  • 15-19 buyers: $285 plus shipping

The fine print of this group buy:
  • Kits will be shipped to you from Seattle (in the US only) via FedEx 2-day express with insurance and tracking. We only ship via FedEx.
  • If you live outside of the US and want in on this buy, email me and we can find a way to ship a kit to you.
  • Shipping cost is $9 anywhere in the US. International shipments cost more.
  • Group buy starts at time of this post and ends midnight PST on October 31, 2002.
  • Payment by Visa, MC, Amex, Discover, Paypal, check or money order.
  • I need a credit card or some way to secure your order... I will not charge until cover ships from me to you. You are not counted as "in" until we get a way to secure payment somehow.
  • When you email me, please put "BimmerFest VDO group buy" in your email subject line.

Lead Time
We have limited VDO stock on hand. Once the group buy ends on the 31st, I will order what I need to make up the remaining kits from VDO AG. VDO AG is a PITA to deal with some times.... It can take up to 3 weeks to get some VDO parts. Sometimes VDO is really fast, sometimes they are exceptionally slow. You should assume that kits will ship on or about November 22nd.

Please call, email, or reply to this post with questions.

One more thing...

Do not EVER email credit card information. Email is not a secure way to send credit card data. Please phone in your CC data or email it in 2-3 separate emails with instructions how to piece the numbers together.

For every order, I will need:
  • Payment info
  • Shipping address
  • CC billing address, if applicable
  • Phone number
  • Email address to which tracking number and other correspondance should be sent.

Does VDO make an A/F gauge? And if so can we get it in the kit? Also does anyone have pics of their A/F gauge?

Thanks.

Also I am almost positive I am in on this GB just doing some more research.

Since I will end up ordering most (if not all) of the gauges for this group buy, it would be OK to subsititute others in place of oil press, oil temp, and volts. The trick is, I am not familiar with how the senders for work say, air:fuel, exhaust gas temp, outside temp, etc. In some cases, the senders may cost more for these gauges than for oil temp and press, which might affect the price. Voltmeter for example, requires no sender. If you want to substitute a different gauge, we will have to figure it out on a case by case basis. I will not be able to help with installation of other gauges.

Here is a sampling of what VDO has in their Vision series lineup:

Boost, various ranges
Vacc, various ranges
Vacc/boost combo
Trans oil temp
Trans oil press
Clocks, analog
Pyrometers, various temp ranges up to 1650 deg F (I think you would use this for EGT)
Ammeter (might be worth having if you had serious car audio)
Hourmeter (might be worth having if you are a smartass)

I cannot find any air:fuel ratio gauges in the Vision lineup, let alone the rest of what VDO has. You would have to go to Autometer if you want one of those.

1. Just you. At this rate, you might as well come over and we'll install it together.

You mean the stowbox under the HVAC panel?

You just pull (hard) and it comes out. Completely deleted.

No butchering in this mod. No hole drilling, no angle brackets UUC-style, no nuthin.

Group buy is over. You can buy anytime from our website. We will run another GB in 6 months or so.
