325iC Rear Window Question
I am buying a '94 E36 convertible that has a cracked rear window. The dealer will have it fixed for $375 or I can buy the car less that amount which is the way to go since a new zippered window can be had for $130. I know the original tops had a zippered in window but is it possible that the car has a replacement top that has a sewn in window? The dealer says it is sewn in but he's not a BMW expert and I don't know if he has looked very hard for a zipper. The car is 300 miles from me or I would look myself.
Any possibilty that it is sewn in? |

I have a 94 325iC; the original Factory top had a zippered window; however, when the top was replaced(non-factory) several years ago, it now has a non-zippered window which is sewn-in ; unfortunately, the plastic now has poor visibility despite attempts to clean it, and it cannot be easily replaced like a zippered one would;

Thanks, I'm hoping it has a zippered window and the $375 is for replacing that. I've got to believe that replacing a sewn in window would be much higher. Good luck with your window!

Plastic Window
I have had a couple of these cars and still have one. 375 for the replacement if that includes a factory zipper window is an EXCELLENT price. My window cost 240 bucks on discount and it is a pain in the butt to replace this thing right. I suggest letting them do it. It looks easy to do but is far from easy.
All you need to do is keep waxing the window inside and out with plastic polish. In a pinch regular car wax works fine. Cloudy rear windows are caused by one thing, poort maintenace of the window. You need to keep it clean when folded and I put a sheet cut to the window size that keeps the window from scratching itself when closed. I also suggest that you treat the top with either coth 303 treatment or Raggtop products. I bet the top will not bead and it should. For maybe 30 bucks you can keep the top from getting destroyed by the weather and the top will last forever. Hope this helps... |
