335i Coupe
Email from Motorwerks BMW in Minneapolis "Hello Alexander, This is confirmation of your email with the attachments. Also confirming the selling price of $2500 over invoice, and a fully refundable deposit, whatever the reason. Thank you for the order, and I will keep in touch with information on the car as I receive it from BMW." Im so excited about this! It seems like only yesterday that I placed the order for my '04 Ci Last edited by alenda; 06-07-2006 at 08:52 PM. |

Talk to me!
Talk to me about this! I was under the impression that most people were paying MSRP. The deposit is always fully refundable. Have people been seriously been getting much better deals?

A decent deal is 500 above invoice, and a great deal, if you haggle, shop multiple dealers, and get the wholesale prices of the cars (I did this buying the $10 bmw specific model consumer reports), will get you below invoice...you have to shop though...if it is worth saving a few grand to you, you should go for it...it usually takes a couple weekends of your time, but I found it worth it when I bought my car. I will be doing the same when I buy a 335xi in the future. Also, buy right before christmas, when the salespeople are more hard up for a sale and will take any type of commission for the christmas bonus.
Best of luck!

Better Offer
I emailed one of the dealerships that I was involved with the dealings to inform him that I extended a deposit for $2500 over invoice and he replied with the following:
"Alex Hello, I have talked to my BMW Manager and he stated that yes we will sell you one for $2000 over invoice. But I will need a $1,000 non refundable deposit for this kind of deal. Let me know if this is acceptable. You can put your order in and send me a check and I will send you a work order and your recite. Thank You!Shawn" Are they playing hardball or what?? Im just a little nervous about the non-refundable part. What if this car ends up costing waaay more than anyone is anticipating and I simply cant afford it? |

Are you in a hurry to buy? Can you wait? I would wait, see how much it will cost, then shop around, even if it means going to a far off dealership...2000 over is not that great of a deal either...like I said, I was able to buy my current car new for a good amount under invoice...understandably, you are looking at a new model, but I would try for at least invoice or at most 500 over...but not 2000... if you can wait, wait for before christmas, like I previously said...best of luck man!

I'm from minnesota,in are market it's tough to get $500 over invoice, especially for a new model like the e92.I would also try the (2) wisconsin dealers,if your from st. paul, should be with in 1 hour or so driving.

Didnt think of Wisconsin...
I am in a bit of a bind since my lease is up this August and I dont really want to buy a car in the middle of a MN winter.
Being that I am about 10 minutes from the Wisconsin border I will definatly check them out. I really appreciate your suggestion and for that matter everyones suggestions! I dont know what I would do without this forum. You guys/girls are great!!!! |

With more dealers willing to do business on internet, it definitely helps getting better deals nowadays than 6 years ago. |

When I spoke to my dealer in Brooklyn NY he stated that he will sell me the 335i for 1k over Invoice.
- he said to me ...listen its only another high production car.....and he is right.... I am not going to pay more then 1k over invoice and I am able to get the car as soon as it is available if I wanted to.... If anyone is interested you can PM me and I can put you in touch with my CA. Thanks.

I just received an email from a dealership in Dubuque, IA with this news:
"Good morning! Thank you for your interest in our dealership! Please send me the details on the car you want. I will do the deal for $1,100 over invoice. I look forward to doing business with you!" I think this is a better deal than what I got on my '04. Granted it is 200 miles away, but for $900 its totally worth my while. That is fantastic news!!!! I already told him that he should be expecting me to be in touch with him very soon with deposit information. I guess the few people that told me that it wasnt that good of a deal were right and I totally appreciate their feedback. THANKS! |

Did you try seeing if your local dealership will match his offer? I agree 200 miles is still totally worth the trip, but it doesn't hurt to see if a closer dealership will match it

1. There is no such thing as a "non-refundable" deposit on a BMW. You will get your money back (unless the dealership can prove in court they were damaged - highly unlikely).
2. MSRP can be a better than $500 over invoice if the money factor is at the buy rate. Don't be so concerned with selling price in a lease, there are many other ways dealers can grease money out of you...I've seen them all.

I guess $1100 over invoice in IA makes sense... the IA dealer probably gets one 335 allocation and has no in town to take it. If the dealer is able to sell a higher end 3er in a town of 50k people then BMW may give him more allocations of future models.

It's been pretty cool following the various offers you've been getting. I would definitely take the $1100 over invoice offer to the other dealers who offered you $2500 and $2000 and see what they say. You might be able to get it for $1000 over or less!

This is getting UGLY!
This weekend was going very well up until I received this email from Motorwerks in Minneapolis about the deal that I received:
Hello Alex, I am familiar with Dan Kruse. We have encountered situations with them before. BMWNA is not going to be happy with them selling outside their own market group. Kruse will have to answer for that. Oddly enough, we just hired someone who used to work there, and he gave a little insight as to how they discount so much. One of their tricks is to give a larger discount if you are going to be leasing. The way they make that money back is to "bump" the lease rate factor. They will not use BMW's published lease rate factor, but will use BMW's standard factor which is higher. Then they add on top of that.....the "bump". This keeps your monthly payment the same as what I would get you from my discount and my lower factor. Now, if you can get from them in writing that they will use BMW's program rates ( I and any other dealer would be happy to get it for you once published) then you indeed got a tremendous deal. We don't do business like that at Motorwerks. As I said, we are a BMW Center of Excellence, and will not play these shyster games with clients. We want to give you a great buying experience, and offer exceptional service when needed as well. That's one of the reasons I've been here so long, and my clients know they can count on me also. I cannot give you more of a discount, as I already gave you a very aggressive price. I will credit back the deposit when I get in on Monday. We would still like to service your car when needed though. I'm afraid we can't offer the BMW loaners, as they are reserved for our clients. We can still give you a shuttle ride to and from work though if that is convenient for you. All the best, David Can they do this and if so is this common practice??? |
