I've got a manual 325i that has a problem where the engine cuts out at around 5200 rpms. I do not think the tac is off becuae it started to occur a few months ago and feels like it may also be losing a little power. It does not stall or anything but won't go past this point. It does this in just about every gear and does not do it if you slowly accelerate up past this point. It mainly just doest if if you hammer it or floor it. I have done alot of work to this car lately and really am stumped about this problem. The things I've done to it this summer include dinan chip, scorpian exhaust, k&n intake, oxygen sensor, thermometor, manifold gaskets and more. I am suspecting that it could have to do with the ignition like distributer cap and rotor.
Anybody had this problem or got any ideas whats wrong |

Since you bring up distributer cap, have you looked or changed it? Thats a 15,000 mile at best tune-up item. Have you checked timing? How about compression? Looked at the spark plugs? How about vaccum leaks? Start with the basics and rule them out. Once you do that make a new thread and ask your detailed question. This is the FAQ thread which is more a place for answers, not questions. |

anyone know is there a way to lift the engine yourself in order to get the pan out? Maybe a video post of this? (I can vouch for 2 painful hours of bolt loosening.)

Bottom of dipstick tube. On my 91 325x, there's a short length of hose that connects it to the pan. Had to tighten up the bottom hose clamp.

hey fella's my I.S, starts right up when its cold but when i drive, stop and restart its takes longer cranking to start her again ,plus the idle's not smooth. i read about fuel enchrichner and how it works.the resestance seems within range. i've checked for vacume leaks etc. now i'm checking the fule systems. any sugestions.?

I had a problem with an irregular idle so i took carb cleaner and an old tooth brush and scrubed from the throttle body to the air box inside and out and now she purrs like a kitten

anybody have a link for how to change the flex disc??? i really need to change mine. They gave me a quote at a shop for $176 in labor for a part i can get for $40, so i think if its not too difficult i could save myself some money.

The purge valve for the charcoal canistor, if your model has this. It's located under the throttle body behind the TPS and I found the leak by squirting carb cleaner under the throttle body. The hose was toast and looked expensive, just pull it of and use regular hose and clamps.

If you think you might have a vacuum leak, just remove the oil filler cap while it is running. This will give a massive vacuum leak as the engine breather system runs under vacuum. If you notice a huge change, then you are not looking for a vacuum leak. Spraying carb cleaner around to find a leak is good, but keep a fire extinguisher handy just in case. Do not be tempted with brake cleaner, as a lot of the new brands are non-flammable and so will not give the desired result. Please don't use easy-start, you may well lose your car....and house....and wife.....

i assumed i had a vacuum leak because i couldnt idle without giving it constant gas. I fixed a bad pipe and it idles better, slighly. could another leak create high RPMs? i ask before i replace the valve cover gaskets.
oh yeah, i should keep a fire extinguisher close by if im spraying the engine with Carb Cleaner. plz say it aint so lol |

i keep a fire extinguisher in my car at all times. the only time that it ever moves is when im using the angle grinder whereby i take it out and keep it handy. you can never be too careful

Me like it! great stuff dudes!/and girls IF ANY! helps alot even if u dont have to fix anythin...just helps when you get stuck out on the road with two kids and a wife that i dont have but ive been there wit my parents wheni was yound a baby back in 91' lol! ...great times on a 72' ford F150...
