Cylinder hread, rebuild or replace
I have owned a 1997 E36 M3 for 13 years. I rebuilt the head 55,000 miles (which is 8 years) ago. That rebuild was generated as the engine overheated (radiator issue). I am the sole driver of the M3 so I know it has not overheated since.
Several months ago, I began developing all the signs of another head issue. I just removed the head and discovered water in cylinder 4 (no surprise). I sent the head to a head shop and I have a cracked head but this crack is in a new location.
If I elect to rebuild the head, how can I feel confident the head does not have a fatigue issue that will bring another premature failure?
If I purchase a new head, where do I find one?
