Bah, Oh well, a hole cut in the roof isnt going to make the car crap, just not a total purist's car. So it's still going to be one awesome Porsche.

I would not get one with a sunroof. Guess I'm a poseur.

But you cannot get one without a sunroof.

Sorry, WITHOUT WITHOUT WITHOUT. ALL 997 GT3's will have sunroof, no if's and but's about it, according to the order guide. This officially turns the 997 GT3 into a poseur mobile, and makes it a mere shadow of its former glorious self.

Neither would I but you can't get one without, because Porsche was too cheap to crash test some w/o sunroofs.

Yeah, they still suck for what they're doing to the GT prefix (you know, making it more poseur friendly ).

Agreed, but if people still keep buying them then there is no reason for PNA to homologate a non-sunroof version.

Customers vote with their wallets.

What if they offered it without a sunroof, but it was a color you totally hate?

Do you think it would be possible to buy a Euro version w/o sunroof and ship it back over here and get it registered here?

Yep, plenty of people did that with Z8, the 360, etc...

You just need to have a register importer do the federalization...

Registered importer is not Porsche USA.

These are indenpendent companies that import Euro model 360, Z8, etc that were on sale in the U.S. and convrt them to U.S. standard for proper U.S. registration.

Parallel import is the term, I think.

So you can pay for a euro GT3 without all the pimped out option, have it shipped here, then have the registered importer do the paper work and conversion (ugly amber lights, mph odometer, etc, etc) for you to register it with your local DMV.

Also, no warranty of any kind, since Porsche USA will not service cars that are imported this way on their dime.

In short, a pretty big gamble.

A safer bet would be a 996 GT3 that came mandatory from the factory without traction control and sunroof. A real driver's car.

Oh, I didn't know that.

The warranty on those things are only 1 year anyways so it's not like we'll miss out on anything.

I like the 996 GT3 but it's my dad's decision, it'll be his car. He wants the 997 GT3 since it looks like his old car (see my sig).

Actually, it's 4 year 50K warranty that you will be losing out if you go this route.

Granted, they will be happy to service your car if you ship it back to the EU where you bought it from. They might give you a hard time about the mph speedo...

Oh really? I thought they came with a 1 year limited warranty w/ unlimited miles?

Hmmm, I'll talk to this auto broker I know tomorrow and see what he thinks.

Thanks Stuka.
