335 comparison question
As I recall, the 1990 300ZX Twin-Turbo also had 300 horses. I don't remember the torque or weight specs of that car, however. Any idea how the 335 will perform in comparison to the Z?

Info on the 300ZX Twin Turbo:
300 hp at 6400 rpm 283 ft.-lb. at 3600 rpm 3533 lb. Curb Weight 13.7 second quarter mile at 102 mph I would expect the 335 acceleration performance to be close/similar. If the E46 330's were mid- to high 14 second cars, no reason another 75 hp shouldn't put these cars into the 13's.

as the once proud owner of a 1991 300zx twin-turbo this much i can say, yes it was quick but the turbo-lag was terrible (contrary to what was said by most of the pundits at the time), i think the CR was only about 8 or 8.5 and the boost about 11 or so psi, i don't recall exactly, the 335 with a substantially higher CR and lower boost (8.5psi) will be much less boost-dependant no doubt, i think that the drag-strip times are likely to be comparable for the 2 models but the 335 more satisfying (with respect to the drivetrain).

Current Specs...
300HP & 300 lb/ft of torque and no noticeable lag (Per BMW media reports) will have a higher result compared to the old twin intercooled 300zx.
The truth will be told when this baby BMW is released.

The 335 has 300 lb-ft at 1400-5000 rpm. That's a torque curve that would make mince meat of the 1990s turbo GTs.
Of course I'd still rather a 95 RX-7 to a 335i. Lighter, sexier, better handling...just plain perfect package. My biggest regret is passing on the chance to buy one. |
