here at The 'Fest. No, I didn't just add yet another
forum... I deleted one that was not really being
used, and replaced it with one that is unique, and has
potential value to many 'Festers...

Quick question: I will have my 330i in Europe for one month, and I'd like to put on a factory alarm (especially since I'll be in Italy some of the time). Does anyone have any suggestions about the best way to do this? Is it cheaper to purchase in Germany, or should I buy one from Manny in the U.S. and take it with me?

I picked up the US version alarm at the BMW dealer in Munich for $165 which is less than you'll see here. I didn't have it installed so I can't say about labor charges, though they replaced my stock SP steering wheel for a M wheel for $22 (labor charge). I doubt you'll get any dealer in the US to do much of anything for $22. I don't know the details but there may be an issue with programming the alarm in Europe for a US car. Anyone?

Wow. I'd really like to purchase the OEM alarm. But, more importantly I'd like to get the M-wheel installed at the factory. I'll be doing ED in mid-December. How were you able to pull this off. Would you mind sharing your secrets? If I need to make some calls, I wouldn't mind getting started now. Thank you.

No, the ED center is different from where I purchased the M wheel and alarm which is the Niederlassung Munchen, phone # 089/3535-1100(service) BTW, the ED center will sell and install wheel locks if you want them, $22 installed. Just tell them you want them when you first arrive at the ED.

My sales rep (he's from Munich and obviously speaks fluent German. Face to face I was able to communicate at the dealership, but I doubt if I'd been able myself to do this on the phone) called the dealer in Munich and made a service appointment for me to have the wheel installed. They don't always have the wheel in stock so this also ensured the part was there when I arrived. I wanted to get to the ED early so I arrived there when they opened at 7:30 AM, had a light breakfast while they finished whatever they needed to do and was out of there a little past 9, drove the 10 minutes to the dealership for a 10 AM appointment. The parts center (accepts all major credit cards, as does service) has the alarm and be sure to ask for the US model and that is printed on the box. The parts man even printed installation instructions in English for me. The dealership is worth seeing just to get a perspective on how to run a business and care for customers. The "oil bag" accessory is kind of a neat and inexpensive thing to get while there as well and it's a lot cheaper there including the quart of oil.

Northern VA, ED, and a German Sales rep. Hmmmm, did you use Passport BMW like me? I think I'll call my rep. and ask him about making an appointment for the alarm.
