1995 M3 Difference between other E36 M3
Someone was telling me that there was a difference between the 1995 M3 and the other years like the 98 and 99 He was saying how the weight was distributed evenly in the 95 and that the engine was better only thing that was recalled was the water pump. Only thing was that this car is more for use during the summer and nice weather. He said it wasnt as good as the other years when it came to rain and snow. What year m3 would you recommend and why. I appreciate your responses.
Thanks. |

haha i dunno about all of that but pretty much the main difference is the engine. 95 M3 has the OBDI engine which can be more easily moddified. It can gain more hp compared to the OBDII engine which is in 96-99 M3's. The 95's engine is a 3.0 while this 96-99 is a 3.2 Liter

THey both have 240hp, ive never driven the OBDII m3 but I was told they are pretty similar. If anythin the 3.2 liter has a little more low end torque i beleive. I personally have a 95 M3 and love it. Many people with the OBDII engines buy the OBDI intake manifold in order to get more hp. If you can find a good condition 95 with low miles I say you go for that if your planning on modifiying it. If not go with the 96-99

the 95 had different diff gears, a tighter steering rack, slightly less torque, non staggered wheels. the best way i can describe it is the 95 seems to be more like a race car(not saying it is a race car) but it just seems alittle more race car like. they all have the same problems with the cooling system and the shock mounts etc... the obd1 cars respond better to bolt on mods such as intake and exhaust, chip, things like that. my friend had a 98 and i can tell you from experience that off the line they are very close but then my 95 would pull away at higher rpm's but not by much. bottom line they are all fun to drive pick one and enjoy it

Curious why BMW changed the gear ratio on the 96-99?
