Cool I am in the process of ordering an 07 M5...

What options are an absolute must, and which are just nice to have...

Also, which is the fastest color?

Definitely get at least full merino leather. It looks awesome with leather dash, doors, tranny tunnel, and alcantara (suede) headliner. Since it doesn't get too hot up there, it might not be all that necessary to get the vented seats and perforated leather.

must -Comfort Access

must -Fold Down Rear seats

must -Head Up Display

Here's another must option- go to the M5 Delivery experience (you have a year to go to the PC to enjoy this complimentary experience) and I recommend PC delivery as well. While I was at the PC last week, there was an M5 in the next bay that was being set up for delivery.

Fastest color? That's a good one. I'm gonna remember that.

I forgot about night vision. That option is currently unavailable on 06's, but will be available on 07's.

Interestingly, I just delivered an 06 M5 and it had the auxiliary input.

I haven't seen Port Brown in person, but I have seen Sepang perf and it's pretty nice.

Interesting - Night Vision will be available..what about Active Cruise Control?
BTW, where will the required sensor(s) be located since the M5 has this air-intake?

The M5 is too fast for Active Cruise Control.

I've got all the options, and here's my list in priority order (no. 1 being the most important).

1. Full leather interior - unbelievably luxurious - virtually every surface is leather.
2. Active seat - I don't like the active part, but you have to order active to get the top-of-the-line seats with full adjustability
3. HUD
4. Sirius
5. Rear side airbags
6. Ventilated comfort seats (vs the standard active seats with no ventilation)
7. Fold down rear seats
8. Comfort access
9. Sunshades
10. Heated rear seats

Added after delivery (in priority order)

1. 20" BBS RS-GT's with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's
2. H&R springs and spacers
3. Blinder M40 Extreme laser jammer (saved me 4 tickets already)
4. V1 radar detector
5. Integrated phone
6. Secondary air filter removed
7. Resonator replaced with straight pipes
8. 35% tint
9. Aluminum pedals

The only 'must haves' I would say for this car is the full leather interior, active seats, and the HUD. For me, I would numbers 1-6 in the 'after delivery' category ahead of the other options.

I also have all the options in my 2006 M5.

This means I got the nicer seats, but in hard cornering I'm not sure if I like the lack of shoulder bolsters. I rarely use the active width adjustment (which is a shame considering the price) but the extra adjustments on the seat (articulating backrest) and ventilation are very nice. In normal driving, these seats are also some of the most comfortable I've been in, and the perforation makes them feel more supple.

The full leather interior is beautiful.

My list would probably be comprised of what I notice/use the most:

Full Leather
HUD
Comfort Access
Ventilated Comfort Seats
Satellite Radio
Sunshade Package
Fold Down Rear Seats
Heated Rear Seats

The rear side airbags I see as a necessity, not an option. My passengers often want to experience the thrills of this car as well, and therefore I feel it my duty to protect them. Besides, the option is very inexpensive.
