Guy's, have a great time and remember; us "west coast'rs" need to live vicariously through lots of pics and stories, since we can't make the journey. Stay safe.

We're leaving in the morning, and for the most part, the wifes are packed - do they need all that stuff (don't question it.) We'll post pictures - the leaves are supposedly 25-50% peak - less than optimum, but nice none the less.

Just checked into the Doubletree Hilton hotel here in Asheville. Brr, it's chilly out there compared to when I left. Lots of frost Saturday morning. Looking forward to meeting you all. Anyone else staying here?

Might miss you all...
We (328iC, Miata, Supercharged Z3) are coming up early Saturday from Knoxville. I was hoping to see you guys run or see the 6s at one of the few rest stops. Are you all going to be on the Dragon Saturday AM?

My friend...

I am not sure how to say this... but please be careful at that hotel! Last June, we had our car GUTTED in that parking lot. And the police officer who was writing the report said it was an "inside job." Just take all of your valuables out of the car at night! Sorry, just a word of advice. Would never, ever want that to happen to you or anyone else. What a gross feeling!! Have fun!!

Incredible day! The weather was perfect, the scenery picturesque, and the driving more than I expected. We had no traffic on the first run on the Dragon and were able to push to the max. That road will show you what your 6er can do - if you are up to it. The other roads weren't pushovers either. The wife had the camera today so I have no pictures - everyone else has a lot that they will post. Time for dinner, but more stories will come.

I hope y'all are having a "funtastic" time driving your BMWs at the challenging Tail of the Dragon, while I work my tail off in this new dragonial, but fun and challenging project. My wife and I wish we were there. We'll see you next year at the Southeast Sharkfest and the '07 TOD.

We'll think of your freezing conditions on December 27-30 while we are at Sebring, FL at the Skip Barber Racing School and y'all are making sure you have chains in your winter tires.

Have fun y'all, and please sent plenty of picturtes! I look forward to see y'all again soon.

6 6ers. Sounds great. Did anyone sneak in with a Porsche or Audi as had been threatened? Is yours the only 650i? Does Cobradav's 645Ci have the special jet assist?

I will do my best to recap the Friday "drive day" (aka boys play hard on twisty roads while the women explored the Biltmore in Asheville). Someone else can add their pics from the Saturday "scenic day." Clear blue sky, beautiful fall foliage, and crisp autumn air made conditions perfect! We had attendees from all over, including several from Canada!

We had an M6, 650, 4 645s, M5, 850csi, e39 M5, 545, 325i, and a 325 touring.

Day 1: Breakfast

The day started off early. Arrived for breakfast around 6:45 AM while it was still dark and frosty outside. It seemed to go from summer to winter overnight with the chillier climate out in the mountains. We had to go to "Plan B" because the original breakfast restaurant was closed, although they claimed to be open that early during the planning stages. So over to the neighboring McDonald's it was. After "fueling" up, we headed onto I-40 and over to the myth, the legend, the Tail of the Dragon. 318 curves, 11 miles of pure driving nirvana.

Day 2: Arrive at the Topaco Lodge at the Base of the Dragon

At about 9:15 AM, we re-gather everyone at the Lodge and prepare for our first Dragon run. Right on time. Excitement is building!

Day 1: Lunch

Around 1:30, we had completed several runs on the Dragon and blew through the Cherohala Skyway into Telico Plains, TN for lunch. Some preferred the Cherohala to the Dragon because it was much longer (about 50 miles vs. 11) and you could see and anticipate corners, i.e. more sweeping turns vs. jagged, blind corners. Nothing beats the Dragon's intensity and challenging bends.

Conclusion

Thanks to Gerry, Dale, and others for organizing this. They put a lot of work into this and it showed. It was a pleasure meeting you all and I hope we can do it again!

We have just returned from the scenic drive - mjames couldn't make today's drive, so he was the first with the pictures. I had wife AND camera in tow so I do have pictures (no ) We have to get ready for dinner (and meet our honorary slayers from California) so I can't post them now. GBelton and others have some action shots from the dragon that will be posted. Ronan had a video cam mounted on the passenger headrest in the M6 and once finished with the editing, will post a link. Should be something to see.

Our first run on the Dragon was completely free of any cars except our group - fabulous luck for extreme driving. BTW, I've got an underpowered, overweight 645 - that wasn't lacking - handling is the key on the TOD. GBelton had the only 650. Cobradav (who did have the ROCKET assist) was using step-manual I think he said he never made it out of 3rd. The TOD requires lots of brakes, rpms, and concentration.
