540i water pump replacement - When??

I know that many items on the V8 cooling system are better replaced as part of a good preventative maintenance program. Does anyone have a good number for the average life of the water pump on the 540's V8? The car in question is a 1998 with about 60K on the current water pump, atleast according to CarFax. Beyond milage I have no issues with the current water pump.

if you're doing it yourself, i'd pick one up and carry it in my trunk, along with the tools. If you're having it done, do it when you want. Mine was leaking around 85k, replaced then by yours truly.

Mine went out at 49K and I had it replaced...around $500 parts and labor . Started leaking for less than 24 hrs with antifreeze under the car. Got it without any overheating issues
