1999 528it Rear Hatch Lock DOA HELP!!

1999 528it Rear Hatch Lock DOA
The rear hatch is stuck in the locked position. The doors are all unlocked & the hatch and window won’t open. The only way I can open it is to crawl in thru one of the back doors and pull the emergency release handle. Any ideas before I head in for repairs?

Thanks

Since both your hatch and window won't open it might be a fuse. There are at least two separate motors or actuators that operate the locks for the tailgate and window. I don't know which fuse covers this circuit, but you can look at all of them and see if any have popped. The fuse boards are located in the glove box and in the rear battery compartment behind the subwoofer, if you have one.

Let us know what you find.

I might be worth taking a look at the tailgate latch mechanism. I recently had a similar problem, although it did not affect the rear window. Here is the thread:

Latch is working I flipped it with my finger.. I'm stumped.

Fuses are good, latch snaps with finger, latch opens manually, I hear the server trying to pull lid shut when I close it. Window won't open at all, hatch opens manyally Yikes!
