The one thing that I learned in this whole Savage BMW episode is...

SPEND THE $$$ AND BUY A BEATER AS A SECOND CAR

Something like a good running E30 for times when you need to go to Costo, the market, the ghetto, rock concerts, etc, and etc.

Having a single car as your sole mode of transportation sucks, and having a beater really takes the stress away.

Is switching a lawyer that works on contingency an option?

Just to share my experience trading in a E36 M3. The used car manager spent almost 1 hour going over the vehicle with a paint thickness gage. He really knew where to test, but the car was never touched, so I asked how much would a repair reduce the value 10-20% with no structural repairs. With structural repairs they would not take the car. Diminished value, you bet.

Yes, switching to contingency is available if we go to trial.

settle for a E92/E93 M3 and an X3 beater... And, of course free service for life and under invoice pricing on all of those ///M Cars

good luck, though!

What dealership

I don't know if you are allowed to say so... but what dealership was it? I know there are only a couple, but I am in the market for a 02 M3 and was just curious about what dealership is involved.

The latest...

I got my car back about a week ago and it is in great condition. The guys who fixed it really know what they are doing and took a great amount of car. It was a $16,500 repair bill that the dealer paid. They also covered my rental costs or put me in one of their own cars (not an M3, however...).

I have had a DV report started and it should be done this week. Preliminary estimates are over $10K. I will then submit this to the dealership, along with bills for other expenses incurred and see what the reaction is. If they ignore my position I will hand the whole issue over to my attorney who is waiting in the wings.

I've tried to be reasonable and give them lots of options, some of which they have made good choices with; some not so much. We'll see where this all goes, but NOBODY will convicne me that my car is worth close to as much with that kind of repair in it's past.

Sorry for the delay, but I'll be back with new info when it comes up.

PM me if you need to know the specific dealership and are searcing for a car. From a sales standpoint I can't comment (I bought mine elsewhere), but I have lots to say, surprise - surprise, about their service.

Went through this, too

I had a similar experience with an audi S6, that the dealer blew the motor on for me. My only satisfaction was obtained by involving the State's Attorney General's office. Until then, the dealer was dug in and waited 5 months. Once the Attorney General's office got involved, the situation was over in a month.

Good luck. It is an painful eye opener.

regards,
rich

Mein Auto: a BMW killer
do any of the local TV stations have an Action Reporter who goes after a business in situations like this? It's amazing how fast businesses do a 180 on their position once the story starts showing up on everybody's TV ....

I would contact BMW USA as well as Germany, via e-mail or fax and put them in the picture. They should buy you a new M3 to compensate you for pain and suffering.

I heard of a similar situation here in South Africa and BMW South Africa intervened and a new BMW was supplied to the customer.

Cheers

Warren

You might want to search on savage bmw and stuka.

I did all that, BMWAG and BMWUSA don't give a crap about you. They have already sold the car, and if they lost one customer, there are ten more lining up to buy their cars.

The dealer is independent, and can do whatever they want, the way BMW had structured the franchise, so there is little that they can do.

But the bigger reason is that they just don't care.
