Convertible not operating

Hello All,
My 98 convertible is having a problem with the boot operation. It won't lock down (In either the top up or down position) so the top won't operate. When I try to start the cycle i get a noise from the boot area much like an impact hammer. It will cycle through this sound a few times and then stop. Anyone have similar problems???
Thanks

Hey Ermjr, mine does the same thing and I have posted a request for help but it seem no one has aparently fixed this on their own because I have not gotten any replies - see "Convertible Lid Motor Problem". I can tell you that it is your convertible lid motor. If your the type to work on stuff on your own it wasn't hard to remove (I can answer any questions you may have). I haven't done anything since removing the motor and posting the question (its been raining everyday anyway). I'll try breaking into the motor in the next couple of days and I'll tell you how it went. I figure the worst case is I have to buy the whole motor (I'm more curious then cheap).
