318i Overheating problems...Help

Greetings to all as I'm a newbie...

As you can tell, I have a 91 318i with overheating problems. I've already installed a new t-stat and new waterpump (that was a xitch), radiator and fan clutch (both from my 89 parts car). I'm still running in the red. When first tested out, I had the heater running but only blowed cold air. After I shut the car down, all 3 radiator hoses were hot with pressure, even the ones that lead to the heater core and throttle body. I read something about a heater valve...does any body have information on this???

Any assistence would be greatly appreciated...

BTW, great site!!

Did you bleed the system properly after installing the waterpump and termo?
Any signs of water in the engine oil?

It could be the heater valve as you suggested.
It's located next to the transmission tunnel inside the glovebox area - take the plastic heater trim panel off (drop the glovebox right down by disconnecting the two straps) and you'll see it. On the top is a wire. Pull this off and the heater valve goes to default mode (fully open) and a cold heater can often warm up. If not, it's shagged and you'll need a new one.

A manual will come in handy for this, online one here;

Im nearly sure its under the exhaust manifold.
Not to familar with the M40 block though so it might be best to verify with the Haynes manual.

Thanks for all the info.

I ended up with draining, flushing and refilling the coolant system using Bucks link and it did the trick.

Again, Thanks
