Adding rear view camera?

Has anyone added a rear camera to their X3 w/NAV? I am ordering an 07' X3 and want to add this whn I get it.

First I am not sure if you can even do it. If you can I am going to 100%.

Second, if you can do it, I would like to do the mod myself, or have it done (depending on the complexity of the install...)

Any info would be great!

Really, I find the beeping sooo annoying... Is there any way to turn off the sounds, but still have the visual? If the X3 will even have the visual? i am adding the Camera 100% so I dont know if I want the park assist.

If you want a rear-view camera, buy an E70 X5.

Yes it can be done - and 100% stealth. We are placing kits on the site soon. Feel free to email me for more info in the meantime.

yep, done and may i say, so beautiful, works like a charm. especially with the little storage compartment atop the dash, i have a 6.5" screen with a carputer and rear camera inputs. if you want instructions, pm me. check the pics on my site too (not up as of today, but tomorrow it should be available), shows what it looks like after its done.

2007 X3 Camera Confirmed by BMW Rep

Sent a priority email via OC last week and just got a reply today stating that there is indeed a rear view BMW camera accessory. The rep also noted that you must have nav. I'm asking for a part number, cost, etc. Will post as soon I hear back from them (they're a little slow).

Rear Camera

Here are the part numbers:

66210397639 (wiring and box) & 66210397650 (camera and handle).

I have no idea what the additional handle looks like. I asked Circle BMW to see if they can send me a picture. I think this can be a decent DIY job without the need of any cutting such as for the X5's camera kit and you don't need to recode anything.

Here's the description:

Rear View Camera for X3 and X5
This ia an integrated rear view camera system for X3 and X5 SAV's equipped with optional Board Monitor Navigation (SA 609). The camera gives the driver the ability to safely view objects in the rear of vehicle automatically when reverse gear is engaged.
The kit contains the wiring harness, control unit, switch box and all relavant connections. The rear handle strip is available in black and requires no additional painting.

Compatibility:

X3 and X5 with optional Navigation (SA609)
All vehicle production

Part Number Description
66 21 0 397 639* X3 Installation Kit MSRP $370.00 Cirlce BMW $314.95
66 21 0 397 650* X3 Handle/Camera MSRP $565.00 Circle BMW $480.25
*Both parts are required for X3 kit

Hope this helps.

adding wireless rearview camera

Sorry, I do not have answer to the original post. but I do have a related question.

I am a new member, I hope this is the right place to post question.

My 2004 X5 did not come with onboard navigation ststem. I want to add a after market wireless rear view camera. But not sure about the color code on the wires inside the tailgate. instead of red and black, there are 2 blue with yellow stripe and 1solid orange going to the backup light and driving light.

Does anyone know if the two blue wires are + and the orange is - ?

thanks

I am on my third day with my X3, and loving it. But I must admit that I was surprised to see that there are not any lights associated with the Park Assist. My Touareg had beeping sounds as well as multi-colored lights, so that you not only new roughly how close you were getting, you would also know which side of the front or rear that the obstruction was taking place, by virtue of whether the lights were lighting up on the left side, center or right side.

With just sounds, you are not getting the whole picture.
