In general I prefer N/A because it's smoother and less trouble-prune in a long term, especially in a light vehicle such as 3 or Z. But in the case of 6-cylinder X5 , a turbo 3.0L is a much better fit than a 3.0L N/A, because of its low RPM torque. A turbo engine not only gives better 0-60 performance, but also high gas milage, because with enough torque, you don't need to push the gas pedal that hard.

V8 X5? It is rumored that there will be a 400hp turbo 4.0L, but I doubt it, because it'll be competing with the 4.8L N/A. Unless BMW further differentiates the turbo V8 from the N/A V8, say, pumping out 500 hp, making a X5 M.

Turbo because it will haul the weight around alot easier. The big car will feel nimble and fast with a turbo engine even if it makes the same power as a N/A engine.
