Was hoping someone would ask but anyway... I'll take the risk of sounding stupid.

With the pre-'07 X5, the 4.8is had a different look than the 3.0/4.4. You can see the difference easily - a more aggressive lowered look with some nicer rims. This 07 unveiling is obviously the 4.8is version. Are we to believe the 3.0 version will look just like this ? Or would the same differences apply in terms of appearance ?

Couple other questions - when they say sales start 11/24, would they take preorders before then ? Do they hit the showroom floors exactly on that date ? What does that mean exactly ?

I think the 4.8 takes place of the 4.4....so the differences would be similar to the current 3.0/4.4

I beleive you can pre-order now. My dealer is actually working on this for me. Does that mean I'll be the first?

...tee-hee...you so funny!

BTW, I just got base pricing...2007 X5 3.0si $45900 or $3400 more than the 2006 (But no $1275 automatic, or $800 Xenon upcharge, plus 18's instead of 17's as standard equipment) and 2007 X5 4.8i $54500.

Remember that the 2006 4.4i was $53600 so $900 more for the 4.8 with 350HP and 350 FT/LBS is an outstanding deal!

Now who wants to get a pool going on when the 'i-s' version will introduce?? Think it will get the V10 eventually??? Who knows....well....certainly not me!

I've got a 19 page press release, but rather than post it here it should be online at www.bmwusa.com tomorrow.

The vehicle is 7.4 inches longer and 2.4 inches wider or 191.1 inches in length and 76.1 inches in width. No EPA numbers yet, those usually come last.

The entire press release should be on BMWUS.com tomorrow-

The new BMW X5 is the first production vehicle in the world to feature a roof spoiler with aerodynamic edges integrated into the side for a precisely defined cut-off of air flow. In addition to the roof spoiler, the rear lights come with cut-off edges to improve the flow of air.

Measuring 191.1 inches in length (7.4 inches longer) and 76.1 inches in width (2.4 inches wider), the new BMW X5 is larger than its predecessor. But it remains an elegant and sporting vehicle to behold from every angle.

This makes the space and flexibility of the interior even more impressive. The new BMW X5 offers space enough for five to travel in style and comfort.

Maximum flexibility: two additional seats in the third row.
A further sign of the high standard of flexibility offered by the new X5 is the option of third row seats. This provides adequate space for two more passengers comfortably accommodating occupants up to approximately 5'6" in height.

These two seats come complete with three-point inertia-reel seat belts and headrests adjustable for height. To ensure convenient access to this third row of seats, the second row may be moved forward with their backrests upright, while grab recesses in the inner lining on the C-pillars help to ensure easy access.

The backrest incline on the second row of seats is adjustable to four different positions and variable in length, helping above all to accommodate large and bulky items in the cargo area.

Enhanced comfort in the third row seats is ensured by separate heating and ventilation nozzles. When the seats aren't needed, they may be stowed individually into the floor of the luggage compartment, completely out of sight. This provides a large cargo area from front to rear together with the second row seats folded down. Passengers in the second row of seats enjoy about 1.5 inches more kneeroom than in the former model.

Regardless of the number of seats being used, generous space is always offered behind the two-piece tailgate. The cargo floor is now almost 4 inches longer than before.

An additional storage compartment beneath the floor of the luggage compartment on models without a third row of seats offers an extra 3.15 cubic feet of storage space. Overall storage capacity for the new X5 is 75.2 cu. ft., an eight percent improvement over the previous model.>>

I personally think this looks great and out of all the last gen BMWs out there, the X5 was looking really dated. And I say that because of the competition. And it's MY opinion. This new X5 looks superb and has a little bangle in it, but not over the top, which will make this a lasting design. The front end looks mean as hell and it looks very BMW. The steptronic gear select looks freaky to me. But now, BMW is "A company of ideas!" - really cheese bag... but get it now? Real cars are gone, welcome to the future. I'm sure this will do very well for BMW.

I'm not an SUV guy, but I've always liked the X cars and I'm definitely a fan of the new X5. I agree that the front end looks really mean and I think the interior looks very nice as well. Definitely what I would buy if I ever wanted to buy a car this size. I'm impressed that the X5 is bigger, but looks smaller in the photos--at least to my eyes. By the way, I forwarded the link from leftlane to a friend who's been looking at Cayenne's and his one word reply was WOW.

Beautiful! Is that a driver-oriented dash I see?

And I like that shifter, it's a great idea for them to implement it like that. I'm guessing that's what the next-generation 7 will have as well.

I believe that 4.8 has the sport pack, and those are the upgraded 20s.

I gotta say that the new X5 interior must be one of the nicest interiors of all the series. It's breathtaking. They hit everything on the nail. If the current 5 series had this interior, it would destroy all the competition.

While I'm trying to contain my excitement for this vehicle and still admire the current model, the exterior is one of the best looking luxury sport utes of all (I think the Range Rover looks pretty nice also, but comes in 2nd place next to this X5.)
