I debadged my '00 528iT and it looks 100% better. It seems to me, the arc of the rear hatch appears more pronounced on the Touring than the sedan, and to me, the straight and level top edge of the badge clashed with the natural horizontal slope of the hatch.

I love driving this car, badge or not, and as you can see by my front tag, I have no qualms in declaring my "wannabe" status... Of course, what do I know... Here in the US, I get made fun of for driving a station wagon, BMW or not...

I think cars are no longer symbols of wealth. A person could be driving an old clunker as a daily driver and still have a high-end vehicle in his garage, of course that automatically tells me this person is a bit worried about his gem which then brings up the question of can he really afford it. Another point is that most people lease and the very few that buy do so on credit hence not necessarily wealthy.
Some new york city reference points: financing an 06 M5 would run ~ $600 - $700 a month; restaurant helpers are paying ~$900 for tiny studios in low income sections of nyc. Kids working in pizza joints and living in their parents basements are driving BMWs on their days off..
