Help! 2002 BMW M Coupe - Radio: Code Wait H3ll

I've got a 2002 M Coupe and recently replaced the battery. Unfortunately, that disabled the radio and I do not have access to any of the original vehicle documentation. I had the radio pulled at the local BMW where they gave me a code and the 3 "identification" numbers off of the radio itself. The radio code does not work. Other than simply entering the code, is there anything I have to push for this to take after entering the code? I don't recall that being the case in other BMWs...

I called another BMW and they gave me a different radio code... can anyone conclusively tell me what they should be searching on?

There's an 11-digit number that looks like a part number for which they were able to find a code, there's an alpha-numeric code starting with BP followed by 12 digits, and there's another which reads, F0401Index44.

Any suggestions? I'd just like to have my radio working. :-)

This happened to me too. It seems that BMW had 2 suppliers of radio. Blaupunkt and Alpine. The first dealer I went to got my serial number and gave me one code. It didn't work, I had to get the other code. They just need the serial number of the radio. Get both codes and if the first one doesn't work, try the second one.

There's a way to get the serial number of the radio without removing it from the dash. I'm sure someone here can help you with that, as I've forgotten the procedure.

Good luck!

You need the serial no. of the radio to get the correct code. turn the radio off then on, press m until the menu comes up scroll over to the no. if not visible.

Thanks Ron! I was just trying to find the serial because I need the radio code. Disconnected the battery and sure enough I can't find the card with the code anymore

Oh well, the S/N is a start...
