P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction

Hi,

My 328CI is running very sluggish...it even gives me hard time when starting. The weird thing is that all these symptoms disappear when its cold in the morning...they even disappear for 3-7 days and then they come back.

I diagnosed the thing and it gave me the following OBDII:P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction.

What do i need to change? How much does it cost? Will it solve the problem permanently?

Guys please help...i'm driving a BMW but it feels like an old Daewoo!!!

Guessing you'll have to change the intake Cam Position Sensor.

I recently had this problem on my 01 330xi. I had the Camshaft Position Sensor done for $285 parts (~100) and labor.
New codes were flipping this week, and after cheking... I obtained a Bentley Manual, and I'm going to attempt to change the Crankshaft Position Sensor (FC 83).

There is an exhaust and intake camshaft sensor. These are both extremely easy to replace yourself. $100 for a 10 min job....

Where are the sensors located?

@Bimmere46, I just got the P0340 code, engine seems to run fine but would like to more about where on the Z3 (M52 engine) they are located because if they are that '10 min.' easy I like to give a try at replacing them. I've seen one picture of general location but don't really see where the sensor is on my engine. Hope you are still active, I know it's been awhile.

Responding to a thread from eight years ago is usually not very productive. You should really be posting this over on the Z3 Forum for best results.
