the VERY best of E39 Links

So yeah.. there's the FAQ but that's only like for common questions. here's a list of my saved "favorites" for E39. i'm sure some already have them but if it's not mentioned, feel free to add them to this thread.

The ever so popular BMWTIPS dot COM

I like this guy's site. it's organized and has some very good DYI procedures.

Again, a pretty well done up DYI site from rolling fenders to suspension survey.

Something simple... just rear fog lights. Well written and plenty-o-pics!

Want more DYI then you REALLY want to do? well, look no further. this guy has done more then is fair share.

Cleaver site with some pretty cool (and cheap) mods.

Not a lot of write-ups but got a pretty good DYI front bumper conversion procedure.

Everything and ANYTHING you want to know about brakes... and probably the BEST place to get them too.

How to unlock your HI-OBC. Kinda sucks if you don't got this upgrade. I think ALL 540's have HI-OBC while only SOME (and i don't think it's much either) 528/525's have HI-OBC's.

The Official Unoffical BMW site of almost everything-you-wanted-to-know-and-documented site

If you got NAV, this is your BEST FRIEND.

OK.. that's it from me.. i'm spent. your turn...

and you might want to bookmark or sticky this.....

im sure everyone already knows about beastpower, but im gonna post it anyway. theyre kinda expensive, but they have a pretty long list of parts, so you can get an idea of whats available for your car, then go somewhere else to find a better deal once you know what to look for.

Somebody already listed this link;

http://www.e38.org/e39/

but it's pretty much everything you every wanted to know. almost every link on there is worthwhile.

I've been in the middle of doing my valve cover gaskets and this is by far the best guide for V8 engines;

http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/124059

While you got your valve covers off, have them beadblasted and powdercoated. I found this guy out in Texas who agreed to blast, prime and powder coat both covers for only $40 plus 2 way shipping;

http://www.jerryspowdercoating.com/

Good Luck!

Compiled Links

Useful links

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tried to compile some links by category. Although most of us have them, I thought there are quite a few people who don't. Whoever has good links for parts, DIY, etc, please post them - then we know where to look. Dan encouraged me to post them here. I don't know how to make it so everybody can add links to the categoties below, or create new categories, but here they are. Will update as time goes by.

Some newer ones ...
- Programming the Homelink GDO

- E39 electrical problems traced to trunk lid wiring harness chafing

- Replacing/fixing/removing the rear license plate light

- Understanding and TESTING the Final Stage Unit (FSU/FSR)

- Jacking up the E39 ...

- Brake warp, shudder, and rebedding ... (including violent low-speed shuddering)

- And, oh ... Bimmerfest posters' personality profiles!
