E39 (1997 - 2003)
The BMW 5-Series (E39 chassis) was introduced in the United States as a 1997 model year car and lasted until the 2004 when the E60 chassis was released. The United States saw several variations including the 525i, 528i, 530i and 540i. -- View the E39 Wiki

I am not sure if it is "Kennzeicnenl prufen" or " Kennzeicrenl prufen".
what does it mean in english??please help

Google didn't provide anything as the spelling is off - close but...

Anyway, "Kennzeichen pruefen" - means to check the license plate. Is that something that your car displayed? If so, you may have a burnt out license plate bulb - but i'm just guessing now.

Yes, this is what the computer was displaying .Nothing wrong with the plate bulb.
Funny thing the warning message is gone now .

I'm curious to know if the OP who lives in the UAE only has German text showing on the dash etc.
Must drive him mad. Time to head off to night school for some german lessons.

I checked the E39 technoterms listing, and found only:
- Kennzeichenlicht = Number Plate Light

So, I added:
Kennzeichen prüfen = Check the license plate light (text of cluster display)

The goal is for every technoterm used in these forums to be in the E39 glossary.

Please add as needed!

bluebee, another item that pops up a lot is "gurt angelean" or something along that line which i think means fasten seatbelt. again, to the op, if this is happenning randomly, your battery might be on the way out as was mine.
