The figure was released. Read it somewhere.

It is faster than the M3's.

The Euro marketing release from last January said the car has a better lap time than the M3, but I haven't seen any specific time posted anywhere. This is about the most definitive list I've seen (link) but the Z4 M Coupe is not on that list.

I've been searching for that number too. It is not posted anywhere. BMW has officially stated that the M Coupe is faster than the M Roadster around the 'Ring in spite of the added weight from the fixed roof but no official numbers yet. We'll have to wait till one of the car magazines tests it. It has slightly better power to weight ration thatn the Cayman S and I think it will be slighlty faster than the Cayman S, which ran it at 8:11. With some suspension mods and better engine breathing, it might well be under 8 min

Magazine tests on Ring are not what we are-

looking for. The BMW professional drivers (probably) did a better job harnassing the power and produced better road test results than the journalist-drivers. This is a comment from the Road and Track reviewer himself.

The magazines all had the Cayman S outperfrming the M Coupe, including Euro Mag tests on the Ring. Those results as I said are with an asterisk.

the coupe does have a little more weight, but the aero should be better and it is a high speed course in some areas. I am interested to see the times.

Good point, my first choice would also be to see what the professional drivers can do with the M Coupe. That said, Sport Auto typically hires professional drivers for the test. In the absence of hard numbers from the manufacturer, Auto Sport's time would be a good reference point. As far as the Cayman S beating the M Coupe in all road tests performed by journalists, that is not surprising considering the M Coupe is harder to drive at the limit (even though it is probably more capable in the right hands!) and especially due to the fact that it comes with ex-gen ContiSports vs. the Cayman's PS2. The results would probably have been very different if the cars had the same tires.

In the MCoupe/Roadster brochure, they write up a couple of paragraphs on the Nurbergring circuit tests. They dont give exact timing - but they say something like "The M Coupe did the circuit in less than 8 and half minutes..."

So - they seem to be rounding up based on other numbers that I have read but can't locate.

It better be much faster than 8 1/2 minutes I saw that in the brochure - they are being extra conservative with the estimate.

There's a time of 8:15 for the Z4 M Roadster in the link I posted above. I would think the Coupe is a few ticks quicker (but it sure would be nice for BMW, a magazine, or even a gifted amateur to quantify those ticks for us all )

Yeah, I can't wait to see some 'Ring numbers for the M Coupe. That list by the way is my performance car bible. The M Coupe should be able to beat the E60 M5 at 8:13 but wow, that M6 is too fast at 8:06 - pretty amazing for such a heavy car!

Some other cars that the M Coupe should be faster than based on that list:

Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG
Porsche 993 Turbo
Aston Martin V8 Vantage
Dodge Viper SRT-10
Mercedes SL 65 AMG
Corvette C6
Porsche 997 Carrera 2
Aston Martin DB9
Acura NSX
Aston Martin V12 Vanquish
Porsche 911 Carrera
BMW Z8
Ferrari F355
Maserati GranSport
Audi RS6
Porche 993 GT3
BMW M3 E46 (by ~ 10 seconds!)

Not bad for a little car that you can get for 50 grand

the list you are referring to obviously does not include the best times for each car..
for example on this list http://www.dieselstation.com/forums/...hp/t12285.html the E60 M5 did 7:52 and the C6 Vette did 7:56

wonder if there's a continuously updated 'ring times list

The C6 is actually on the list I linked to, but it was for a C6 Z06. These lists are all fan produced. If there was an official database of lap times, I imagine we'd all be aware of it.

I found BMW's official statement confirming that the M Coupe is faster than the roadster at the Northern Circuit of Nurburgring -

http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...25/208468.html

"This high degree of dynamic superiority was clearly proven by the BMW Z4 M Coupe on the Nordschleife, the Northern Circuit of Nurburgring, where the Z4 M Coupe outperforms the lap times of even the BMW M3 and the BMW Z4 M Roadster."

At this point, the only number I really care about is 18. That would be the number of days before I take delivery, assuming everything goes smoothly.

I remember in the days before I took delivery of my '01 325i, all I could think about was the car. My attention span for anything else was < 1 min tops Exciting, though - in life, it is rare to anticipate something so eagerly!

I get to finally test drive one - scheduled for next Friday the 29-th.

I went through the same thing with my 3er, except us West Coast folks get to wait a little longer for the car to travel through the Panama Canal. I still have my "wait" web page sitting on a hard drive at home replete with photos of the ship, important dates in the life of the car, and my acumulated wait-related anguish...

Enjoy the drive. I drove one back in June, about 2 months after I put a deposit down. It's a neat little car.

The Z4 isn't getting a V8. It simply isn't.
