At least the French were smart enough to build the backside of the bunkers out of much weaker and thinner walls of concrete so that the Germans couldn't use it for their own line when the allies came to save their frog asses again.

Actually, the German rebuilt parts of the Maginot (improving it, of course) and turned the guns the other way.

There are parts of it still standing today and there is even an interesting museum there. Depressing stuff nonetheless.

I just finished reading an excellent book by Antony Beevor (UK) titled, "The Fall of Berlin 1945". Man, I felt empty for two days afterwards. An amazing historical work.

Anyway, weren't we picking on the French? Carry on!
