Refinishing headlight lens
I took what I read on this forum about refinishing the headlight lens on my 1997 528i and tried it this morning. I started with wet 800 grit sandpaper, then wet 1000 grit, and wet 1500 grit. I did each grit 2-3 times based on what it looked like when it was dry. Then I used 2 coats of Meguiars Scratch X, and ended with 2 coats of Meguiars Plastix. The whole process took me a little over 1 hour and the differences are amazing. I hope this helps anyone who is dealing with oxidized and scratched headlights.

Scratch X is for paint but it will work. I recently polished up a friends BADLY oxidised scort wagons headlights with Mothers aluminum and mag polish. No scratches and looks good(in a few spots). They are so bad that I will have to go over them again possibly with sandpaper.
(damn ford for using cheap plastic headlight lenses)

One of the best plastic cleaners that I have used is Novus comes in three level 3 for removing scratches and oxidation, 2 for polishing out light haze and so forth and 1 for cleaning and brighten the plastic
Here is a site that has it for you to read about if you are interested http://www.delviesplastics.com/Merch...astic_cleaners

I actually read about the ScratchX on one of the old posts here. I was also told about it by my BMW mechanic. I'm guessing the outcome would have been the same just using the PlastiX. Oh well, I'm happy again.
