Rotor Paint

Eastwood. Stainless steel finish. I might redo in a more silver color. Still have a second coat and cleaning work left to do.

Even more labor intensive, I used Techline's thermal dispersant coating on the Healey's rotor hat and edges (plus rear drums).

Surface must be blasted and cleaned with solvent; mask off all areas that are to remain uncoated; use airbrush to apply a ridiculusly thin amount (like .0015"); cure in an oven at 300 degrees (part temp) for an hour.

Yeah, I'm taking the easy way out on this one.

Spots on floor are "brake dust with brake cleaner" soup. will clean right up.

Looks great! I just ordered some Eastwood brake drum black for the Z3's rotors. In the spring I will get the Euro floating rotors from the M3.

Jon, why did you paint the aluminum hats? They clean up nice with scotchbrite pads.
I used the Griots cast iron color. Had the rotors bead blasted. Still a pain in the ass to paint. Three coats using Q tips etc.
It doesn't last. The rust starts coming though. Becomes an annual thing.
You also have to paint the ID on the disc surface. 1/4 inch on the back and 1/8 inch in the front in my case. OD, 1/8 inch.
Looking into powder coating the rears and cad plating the fronts.
A masking nightmare, just like doing the wheels.

It was a tossup on the hats. I wanted them to look uniform front and rear.

I don't think Griot's carries their paint any more. The Eastwood stuff is really nice. Don't get it anywhere you don't want it to go. I cannot get it off. Fingernails included. Can says "contents partially unknown". Andy bought the matte silver which is a shade lighter than what I bought. Of course he has solide rotors in rear which makes his work a little easier.

I did do the IDs, just like you. I cleaned any overpainting with scotchbrite.

I will not be pleased if this paint does not hold up. This project was a crapload of work. I did not bead blast. I used wire wheel on my Milwaukee
and also a wire pipe cleaner. I watched Office Space 6 times while I prepped them.

If powdercoat holds up better and/or cad plate, I am interested.

If I go with RK2s, I will paint the spacers too.
